@monsterislandcolonizer @WashedOutGundamPilot @bleedingphoenix @DW2 this gets to something very deep
the answer is, of course, “because your neighbors need you at the local utility”; and you could, in a better world, be making that extra money there, were it not for constant jewish strip-mining
the boomer in this scenario doesn’t insist that you do, or use his position as leverage to compel that outcome, because he is invested in the system as it currently exists, because that system produced him (The Greatest Generation Ever) and therefore must have some objective utility and goodness to it; any failure on your part with respect to that system is, therefore, due to your own personal failings (unwilling to eat shit or eat bugs for long enough, “lack of work ethic”, “lazy”, insert all the usual boomerisms here), and can in no way reflect the existence of a fucked system (which in turn devalues his status with respect to it; he “got lucky”)
here’s the critical thing, though:
the millennial in this equation is also invested in the system at this point, because he (she/xer/whatever) has spent so long attempting to comply with its increasingly insane dictates that it is now a humiliation to admit that they should have walked away from it long ago, and therefore, they also double down on compliance and supplication because it’s all they have left
the future belongs to the person who creates for these people a Golden Bridge, across which they can retreat while keeping their self-image intact; “I’m not an idiot, I was just tricked by evil people”
and this is why Noticing is getting increasingly suppressed: if you happen to notice that all of the architects of this shit have extremely suspicious noses and last names with precious metals in them, that is a very plain conclusion that can be drawn and it is very easy to figure out what to do next, and that fury will be magnified beyond comprehension once a channel for the release of all that narcissistic injury is opened up
and gosh, it’d sure be a shame if that happened
