Walmart's model is really interesting. They automatically record every item you put in your cart and check it against your purchase at checkout. If you stole anything they typically let you go but log your face in as a thief and sell the fact that you're a thief to data brokers. Supposedly they keep a running total and once you've stolen a felonious amount they go after you through the court system but not sure if that part is true

There is something of an equivalency with respect to the attention economy; what I mean is we should acknowledge these things and maybe participate in local organizations if you have kids and something comes up locally, but the pattern of endless content about it on the Internet is psychologically unhealthy

It’s definitely nice when politicians say things I agree with but nice in a drug high sort of way. I can’t agree voting is meaningful at least on a national level, there are too many top-down intermediary processes but I definitely agree with the sentiment about the existing political tribes. I will say it mostly seems like a media phenomenon, normal working class people face-to-face are mostly independent and easiest to talk to when the right social context permits imho
