@arstechnica This is why I try to tell people that services and systems like these just really are not ok. You paid to have access to things -- even actually bought things -- and then they just remove it later whether due to licensing or other problems.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Dec-2023 09:59:12 JST Nazo @arstechnica It's going to be fun watching another malignant narcissist rise in power and riches then screw everyone over all over again.
And by fun I mean I'd rather be banging my head on a wall the whole time. Why do people never learn?

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Dec-2023 09:51:48 JST Nazo @arstechnica It's getting kind of stupid how susceptible humans are in general to tricks like just throwing higher numbers at things. Like cheap batteries that claim 4x the capacity of quality batteries and actually have 1/2 but people buy them because they have a higher number on the package. It actually works. A high end energy drink has less than 200mg PER CAN (~2.5 servings!) If you think you need more than that, you shouldn't be allowed to make your own decisions anymore.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Dec-2023 10:46:37 JST Nazo @itsfoss I've been wondering about this one. Searches are often abused by bots and DDoSers, so I wonder if there may be some small validity to this?
Probably is a bad sign in general though. Seems like now is a good time to begin the process of migrating away before they start requiring Microsoft accounts and stuff to use it. Better now with a slow, easy transition than later with a sudden fast and hard transition.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Dec-2023 10:44:31 JST Nazo @nixCraft Ironically back then it actually did work. Well, I can't speak for as far back as the Atari 2600 with its admittedly quite weak graphics, but for the NES era on up, stuff like the epic box art they did for some games could really fuel the imagination and actually help you get into the game that much more. At least for a kid. Doesn't work as well for many of us as an adult sadly. 😞

pay the CEO less.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Dec-2023 10:26:16 JST Nazo @arstechnica Wait, they don't have any equivalent to OBD2 on EVs? That's stupid... Yes OBD2 might have been made for emissions, but it reads all codes, including stuff not even directly related to emissions and can be terribly useful in diagnosing a lot of problems.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 04-Dec-2023 15:53:25 JST Nazo @nixCraft @twoframesperminute Maybe that's not ok? They actually don't though. You have quite a lot of control over things generally and a lot of stuff is opt in. I admit some is opt out, but opt out is not the same as no choice. What's more, if you have the knowhow (any Linux user should!) you can take even more control of your devices with third party "ROMs" when it comes to Android OS. (See LineageOS.)
We shouldn't encourage more listening in, we should demand less.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 04-Dec-2023 15:51:48 JST Nazo @nixCraft No, LLMs actually suck at identifying things. In most scenarios they're wrong more than 50% of the time. In a few they're wrong more than 90% of the time.
It's very important to remember that LLMs are not actually AI and lack the fundamental part of the AI -- the "intelligence" part. They don't understand, they just pattern. They'll improve filters and etc to try to force the LLMs in line, but ultimately it's just reinventing the wheel they already had with more energy waste.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 02-Dec-2023 08:25:33 JST Nazo @arstechnica If an upset child who didn't get what they want starts holding their breath, screaming, crying, and hitting people, does this mean they are also "candid and profound"? Well, they are honest about their feelings I guess, so candid yes, but I can't find a single individual thing that could possibly be called profound under any stretch of the imagination. The baby needs to go take a nap so the adults can get things done.
