The problem is the entire EV industry lacks Federal Standards. They need standardized charging ports (so you can plug in anywhere), standardized batteries (for battery swap kiosks) and standardized diagnostic ports.
@arstechnica Wait, they don't have any equivalent to OBD2 on EVs? That's stupid... Yes OBD2 might have been made for emissions, but it reads all codes, including stuff not even directly related to emissions and can be terribly useful in diagnosing a lot of problems.
