@arstechnica Unless, conversely, maybe the issue is just that it's really difficult to just come up with some simple set of rules that make identification super easy and, also, bots are good at fooling people (since the output they're producing comes from human input originally anyway.)

Or just lash out, insult everyone, and whine that the world isn't fair for not giving you bundles of cash just for forcing his little fantasy of owning everything and naming it all "X" onto the entire public.

Guess we have to wait and see, but they came so close to a complete self-destruct that it may already be too late. Huge numbers of devs started looking at viable alternatives like Godot and no longer trust Unity.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 28-Nov-2023 10:15:00 JST Nazo @arstechnica Honestly, more and more it seems fingerprint sensors on virtually everything are coming across as fairly bad ideas. Sure it's convenient to quickly unlock something -- I totally get it. I hate having to quickly unlock my phone to get to stuff in a hurry. But there are too many problems technologically and legally (seems like they can force you to unlock via finger but not via password? Not sure) it seems like.
Though it sounds like MS managed to find a way to make it worse.

Language aside, Saunders explained those things really well.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 27-Nov-2023 08:03:10 JST Nazo @nixCraft I think people should be careful. The problem with the Turing Test is that it assumes that something which passes does so because it understands what is being asked and what it is answering. LLMs just find patterns from the input and produce common pattern outputs that fit. Key to that is it's entirely possible they could seem to pass if, for example, turing test style text was in the model, but of course they still lack the fundamental understanding.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 23-Nov-2023 08:37:59 JST Nazo @arstechnica It really makes me sad watching Tesla ruin the whole concept of autonomous vehicles. The world needs them more than I can even say. Humans prove every single day that the grand majority simply should not be allowed behind the wheel. But, sadly, autonomous vehicles are not here yet and companies like Tesla shouldn't be pretending that they are. Now whenever it actually is safe and reliable no one will believe it.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 23-Nov-2023 08:16:45 JST Nazo @arstechnica Meanwhile, good god what a mess their GPUs are for home users this time around. It almost feels like they just want to stop even selling to home users right now and just focus on "AI" only. (Not sure why they can't just separate the two and do both?) I was especially shocked at how low the memory bus was in several of the latest models (which, ironically, even hinders "AI" since the LLMs that are mistakenly being called AI rely on running models in VRAM.)

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 23-Nov-2023 08:05:50 JST Nazo @arstechnica I don't know. I'm pretty sure the hinge thing at least is prior art. If anything, Lenovo may actually be the infringer. I get that it has that locking mechanism that sets it somewhat apart, but I harbor doubts even that is unique enough to "own." 2-in-1s having a hinge is nothing new and locking for typing is also not.
Two finger scrolling on touchpads dates so far back I can't even remember. Lenovo lost that one the moment they filed it.
Not sure about the wireless stuff.
