But actually If you flatten those pins you lower the drag coefficient of the socket. That way you improve airflow and as a result you drastically improve CPU cooling.
Don't believe me? I'll bet the CPU will stay pretty close to ambient room temperature in that socket!!

If there was yellowing all around I'd assume it was a smoker no, this looks like real bad luck. Perhaps the socket couldn't take the heat and the CPU stuck to the socket cover?
