That's how it goes. 90% of my steam friends I don't even remember who they are aside from "oh it's that profile that I saw playing that one game I decided to check out and liked" -

There was literally no other reason to start shitting up this thread and everyone else can see it. -

I remember they would blow a gasket if you had anything remotely identifiable. They would also go around trying to trick kids into giving them their password then shame them in front of the whole class if they did, it was pretty funny. -

Rayfield (rayfield@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 23-Dec-2022 11:26:30 JST Rayfield @WashedOutGundamPilot Oh dude, I use citrisurf at work for passivating stainless steel (I was originally given some stuff containing hydrofluoric acid and I said fuck no I'm not touching that).
It's good stuff, no complaints and there hasn't been any rust on the stainless parts after 4 years in a corrosive environment.
I've never seen rubber undercoating actually protect anything. It always separates from the base metal, traps water against the metal and rusts everything out while concealing the fact. Oil mist/fluid film/wurth film has never let me down. -

Aren't they going to come up against the hard limit of metal fatigue at some point? -
Rayfield (rayfield@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 22-Dec-2022 07:30:49 JST Rayfield @Shadowman311 @Elliptica @EssentialUtinsil last year I got a call from an old job asking me if I could look at their printer after a power outage. tl;dr their entire payroll system runs off an old desktop running DOS hooked up to a dot matrix printer and they have no clue how it works, how to fix it or how to modernize. They told me they were quoted somewhere around $25k to upgrade.
They were unable to print any paychecks until that printer was fixed. -
Rayfield (rayfield@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 22-Dec-2022 07:30:41 JST Rayfield @Shadowman311 @EssentialUtinsil @Elliptica This happened in 1991 so for all I know they could use totally different systems now. I just like highlighting their stupidity. -
Rayfield (rayfield@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 22-Dec-2022 07:29:25 JST Rayfield @EssentialUtinsil @Shadowman311 @Elliptica Hey, at least they managed to fix the software bug that rendered them useless after running for 20 hours without a reboot. And all it took was 28 people getting blown up before they decided to patch the (known) bug.
>The computer used to control the Patriot missile is based on a 1970s design and uses 24-bit arithmetic. The Patriot system tracks its target by measuring the time it takes for radar pulses to bounce back from them. Time is recorded by the system clock in tenths of a second, but is stored as an integer. To enable tracking calculations the time is converted to a 24-bit floating point number. Rounding errors in the time conversions cause shifts in the system's ``range gate", which is used to track the target.
