You can search up IP cam trolling on YT and it happens a lot less/it's lower profile these days, but it was truly a rabbit hole of crazy shit.
Case in point, Dwight (who's in the Phone Losers crew) did a few of these a few years back before it seemed too "hot" for YT (before the infamous Safeway prank call the PLA did) and they were some truly premium shit. Someone mirrored them to fucking >dropbox, I should mirror them to IA when I'm at home and not on phone data.

Slightly unrelated, I know in another thread that me and others were talking about shitty Discord trolling groups that took shit way too far (after the poast/baest hackers were outed as being from the same shitty group who was swatting an elected official and dozens of ecelebs) and I'm sure that 4chan jannies cracking down hard on raids and whatnot pushed it all underground. -

This post likely came up when the whole scandal where one of the people in his circle trooned out happened and needless to say it both got parodied heavily especially as the troon had meltdowns to anyone making jokes about him. -

tl;dr don't buy chink IP cams unless you secure the fuck out of them. They will show up on SHODAN and while IP camera trolling has died out like a lot of fads, remember that if a 15 year old skid can get into your cam to micspam you IRL, so can anyone else. -

Doesn't even need to be sending shit back to China. Back in the day there were "IP Cam Trolling" videos where people would search on SHODAN for IP cams (which would let you talk to the people in case you say had a thief in your place) and everyone would just micspam shit or fuck with the people living there.
There was a video of a old 4chan thread in which someone went to a classroom which had one of these cams set up and started playing the "racist ducktales song" loud to a classroom. I can't find the one that had the ending to it because YT kept jannying these videos but there was one upload of that same incident that ended where the boomer maintenance guy was removing the racist cam as it was shit talking him. -

I think people are angry about blocking Meta for the wrong reasons. Everyone is concerned about datamining or FB EEEing the protocol, but nobody is concerned about FB just making it so you have to follow their rules to federate with them and having to fill out some form to get unblocked.

Pawoo's the only one that has a CP spam problem out of those and I know mint or someone else with knowledge of the fedi pedo sphere speculated it was because of fedi pedos trying to get revenge at someone or something gay like that.
Also Baraag and Pawoo are mostly apolitical and Baraag has users who will send reports if you say castrating kids is unethical and whatnot.
GameLiberty and maybe Liberdon aren't too high profile either. I think if they went for instances, they'd go for Poast, NCD, and the "sphere" around it (nobodyhasthebiz, pieville, etc.) the most. -

The only thing related to violence I can think of that FB/Meta did was when the NZ shooter livestreamed it on FB. They also confirmed that nobody reported the video until it concluded 30 minutes ago, and that they made a good faith effort to remove reuploads.
FB also will pull down shock videos if they're reported and they go to the EN moderation team. The issue with non-EN moderation (and sometimes corners of the site) is a universal problem with every big tech company. I'm also sure there's also a huge heavy load on a site the size of FB as well. -

So from reading between the lines, first of all I'll say it again: all big tech platforms have issues with non-EN moderation. The majority of the moderation team is focused on moderating Anglosphere countries and the second part is focused on moderating GAE subjects/countries. The rest they could not give a shit about and I've heard stories that outside EN big tech shit like CP is a massive problem.
I'm not excusing it, if anything it's exactly why many countries will block FB/Google or will have most people on their own local clone of it.
But this whole thing sounds a lot like "Facebook caused 1/6" and other fun stuff like that. It's not the magical algorithm causing something, but rather what people are saying all the time causing it, and it comes down to a userbase problem. -

So once upon a time there was this social network anyone could host that interoperated with other instances called StatusNet, renamed to GNU Social around the same time it became a GNU project (for a while being a GNU project carried some prestige). Over a few years it gains a cult following in the early-mid 2010s with a small group of nerds online, usually libertarian/free speech leaning, though there was also a socialist left segment of the network as well. This increases after Twitter ban waves and another instance releasing a frontend that mimics Twitter.
Then 2016-7 comes and Eugen decides to start this new social network that's decentralized and while starting a new network from scratch would be an uphill battle, Eugen decides to latch onto the existing GNU Social network using OStatus (while also adding in ActivityPub). Mastodon gets this marketing blitz about how it's "Twitter without the Nazis" from journalists for a month or so in early 2017.

This leads to a giant divide between Mastodon instances and the others using GNU Social, like the current one with Lemmy and the rest of the fedi or even the new Twitter refugees. Namely while the GNU Social side was mostly for free speech and similar, the Mastodon side had the Tumblr mob/NPR listener mindset of shutting down everything online. This is why a guide on Mastodon installation will tell you that you must install a blocklist as an example.
But the even larger issue is that now Mastodon has become the IE6 or Chromium of the fediverse. It's the most popular fediverse instance software based solely on name recognition. It had/has so much pull over the network that what Eugen wants, Eugen can get. Instance blocking wasn't a thing before Mastodon and the Mastodon side is still the top abuser of it. On top of that, Mastodon also has increasingly lagged behind Misskey/Pleroma and even forks for features like reacts. Due to this technical and cultural difference, being on the fediverse with Pleroma and Misskey is vastly different.
Aside from Mastodon instances hammering GNU Social instances (thanks to numerous factors including better hardware for Mastodon instances, more of them, and the ways the code was written), Mastodon also basically forced the rest of the fedi off of OStatus and onto ActivityPub by dropping support for the former. GS being abandoned basically also fueled the rise of Pleroma as ex GNU Social users wrote that.
There's a lot more I could get into, I know a few people on shitposter.club (a former GNU Social instance around before Mastodon) know a lot more about this than I ever could because they lived it.
