>well I expect the mastodon side to break not us Remember the whole "embedding images in a corner" trick that was fucking with people a while back? Or how the PleromaFE exploits were what caused the Poast/Baest hack?
PleromaFE has more holes than swiss cheese and @mint can probably name more.
I like to call this problem "privacy through obscurity". Nobody on the fedi believes that anything they post can stay up forever, they are under the illusion that it gives them even more control over their online persona than Twitter does.
Unfortunately that could not only not be further from the truth, but it's a dangerous mindset on the level of "I got my name out of the phonebook or listed it under an alias, I'm impossible to harass".
To these people, this very instance and any running Pleroma/Misskey could be an archiver too.
Honestly I think the future is going to be to get rid of the Reddit/Discord/Twitter clustering because right now that shit is killing the internet and the fact that 2/3 of those are dying right now is good, it's just as with Skype dying a lot of braindead NPCs are going to the Next Big Thing from the same big company that one year ago they hated. But yet people aren't even going all to that like with Tumblr dying, the migration is fragmented between Fedi/Bluesky/Threads with a small bit of Nostr.
