    @WashedOutGundamPilot i just see myself here. wanted to be an astronaut when i was a kid until i learned they weren't the ones making the ships. nowadays i'm doing factorio bullshit in palworld and calculus for stupid ships in kerbal space program because i find that shit fun, but i've spent most of my entire life making money off thug work and security work because i'm big and strong and that's what i can actually make money with

    sitting down for 20 years and optimizing an engine or assembly line to run 2% more efficiently is one of those dream jobs i'll never have

    i think these two creatures most clearly show how and why palworld succeeded where pokemon failed. both games wanted to make a modern internet/technology monster to appeal to the modern audience

    pokemon ripped off minecraft because minecraft was popular
    palworld made an insomniac with depression and an energy drink addiction

    it's easy to see which one would have the broader appeal

    @sapphire @ArdainianRight @jimmybuffettfanaccount also please note i agree that alta got obnoxiously preachy at times, i just think these two particular examples are bad ones: the finale was bad for a number of reasons including executive meddling, i don't think trying to push a message was one of its many sins. toph, as well, wasn't trying to push a message, i think it was the writers dunking on THEMSELVES. a big strong burly earthbender dude is exactly what they planned and what the audience expected, but then they came up with a clever variation of the blind samurai master trope and went with that
