There's a cli one called gurk (https://github.com/boxdot/gurk-rs), but 0.3.0 was a bit buggy, and I can't compile the latest one as my libraries are too old :(
Not found anything else decent, so I've given up for now.
#XMPP for the win anyhow 😜

@srslypascal everything should be back to normal now 🤖
@ulfi @debacle
We had issues publishing the post on gajim.org, that's why the news is late 🤖 No worries!
@debacle @gajim Hm, looks like I am running this version since quit a while via flatpak? :blobthinkingeyes:
Was this version unstable up to now?
Gajim 1.8.1 has been released 🚀
This release brings improvements for file previews 🖼️, a default encryption setting 🔐, and many small improvements and fixes.
Thank you for all your contributions!
@nitrofurano some help can be found in the Wiki: https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/wikis/home
Other than that you are welcome to join our chat at: xmpp:gajim@conference.gajim.org?join
Gajim is getting a major database overhaul 🔧
These changes will pave the way for:
- Message Replies 🗨️
- Message Reactions 👍
- Message Retraction 🚫
- Rich file transfers 📁
@vascorsd there have been some preparations for OMEMO:2, but no plans yet.
@gerowen Gajim's voice/video calling does not support the newest standard (which is used by Conversations, for example).
@matze we were aware of that, thanks to @debacle
But it's only ready when it's ready 😉
@BollerwagenPicard Gajim is quite alive, check https://gajim.org/post/ for updates 📣
Gajim 1.8.0 has been released 🥳 and it comes with integrated OMEMO encryption! Integrating the OMEMO plugin brings tighter integration and better user experience.
We also rearranged the chat menu and added some quick buttons for convenience.
Both Gajim’s message search and conversation view received some important changes and fixes.
Thank you for all your contributions!
@aj those numbers should be 'resources', i.e. number of connected clients. Note that these numbers are not shown in recent Gajim versions, since they don't add any value nowadays.
@rnd maybe Gajim from Flatpak is an alternative for you: https://flathub.org/apps/org.gajim.Gajim
@walruslifestyle you must be using Gajim nightly then, because Ubuntu 22.04 only offers Gajim 1.3.3. Nightlies might break for unforeseen reasons, since they are not stable. Ubuntu 22.04 does not offer all dependencies Gajim nightly needs.
Syntax Highlighting and URL Image Preview plugins have been integrated into Gajim and thus are both available. Gajim's LaTeX plugin has been discontinued due to security concerns.
@walruslifestyle omemo-dr is not part of Gajim 1.7.3, but a change which hasn't been released yet (nightly). If this dependency is one of a Gajim 1.7.3 package, then it's a packaging issue. Please let us know which Linux distro are you using, so we can contact the package maintainer. 👍
Regarding Flatpak: Gajim 1.8 will include the OMEMO plugin. For older versions, check out this guide on how to install plugins via Flatpak: https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/tree/master/flatpak#install-plugins
@walruslifestyle nobody is forcing you to update! But Gajim's code is evolving, and it makes use of newer Python features. Latest Gajim requires Python 3.10 :python: (released Oct. 2021).
If your distribution doesn't ship Python 3.10, you can install Gajim via Flatpak as well: https://flathub.org/apps/org.gajim.Gajim
@okabe_rintarou
What functionality are you missing? In Gajim 1.7 you can search, delete, and export messages from within Gajim.
@erua ...and now that plugin is part of Gajim - no need for a plugin anymore 🎉
