Someday, you'll feel nostalgic and still have all your original packaging. Although I worry that most smartphones will become obsolete simple because of no available good replacement battery, which was the case for an older Samsung Galaxy Note that I tried to refurbish but couldn't because of that.
Still, my point stands: Collecting original packaging is fun, especially if it doesn't need that much space.

Okabe (okabe_rintarou@shitposter.club)'s status on Saturday, 01-Jul-2023 18:41:20 JST Okabe @ringo @victor I wouldn't say doctors are corrupt. They just practice what they learnt.
I'm also hesitant to say that modern medicine is all bad. I've talked to a few in private and asked them specifically about the old ways of herbal medicine that were replaced in the last century and if they are really better. The answer was that they're simply not as effective when it comes to severe cases and people simply expect maximum efficiency. You can't considerably prolong lives in such cases.

What would you have liked for them to change at the minimum?

Okabe (okabe_rintarou@shitposter.club)'s status on Friday, 12-May-2023 01:09:36 JST Okabe @gajim @gajim I'm still on Gajim 1.3.3 and simply can't upgrade because of the lack of the history manager (separate window to view chatlogs). I'm hoping that it will come back someday and that the old version I'm using will work a bit longer.

But I was under the impression that that is a form of backup… :blobcatdisturbed:
I believe someone even explicitly mentioned it in my original thread a while back that it’s like that. If one of the two drives in a RAID 1 array would fail, you just put in a new one and it will automatically “sync back up”. That was the reason I intended to make a NAS using RAID 1 in the first place, to have less trouble.
Again, I’m not as tech-literate as you guys are. I’m just stumbling around in this sphere, hesitant and afraid of too much trouble, hence the massive delays in me doing anything of it.

A home NAS is something I'm considering a year now, but like with Linux, I had many worries about it.
You seem to know something about running RAID and possibly NAS systems, so since I have your attention: Do you know if it matters much for a home user like me if I shut down the NAS system daily?
I have an older PC with an Intel CPU (around 12 years old) where I wanted to just put in lots of Western Digital Blue hard drives and run them in RAID 1 via TrueNAS. My plan was to just occasionally run it, whenever I'm at my PC, but some people are absolutely against ever turning a NAS system off and therefore the hard drives of it.

>ArchLinux for gamers home power users.
I want to switch to Linux for over a year now and almost even did last year, but things held me up (like there being no equivalent for X-Mouse Button Control on Linux). It always seems to lead to ArchLinux for me, since I do consider myself a power user (and I also like games). Manjaro seems to be a worse derivative of it the more I hear about it, even though it was originally my choice.
Can someone just briefly enlighten me as to how it is of importance what filesystem the Linux boot partition is?

Okabe (okabe_rintarou@shitposter.club)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Mar-2023 11:13:11 JST Okabe @coolboymew @mononoaware You could, but I had some difficulties with it. In the end, it's just a Firefox with arkenfox user.js baked in. I see no benefit to using the normal Firefox with arkenfox user.js, especially if you familiarize yourself with it. I also had trouble 2 years ago when I tried to customize some settings in Librewolf.
Plus, Librewolf could just be dropped by the maintainers at any point in time for whatever reason since it's maintained by volunteers. I try to minimize dependencies wherever possible.

Okabe (okabe_rintarou@shitposter.club)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Mar-2023 11:08:34 JST Okabe If I may make a suggestion: Hardened Firefox via arkenfox user.js. Changes are being applied to your profile via the file "user.js" in your Firefox profile folder and you can override any general defaults from arkenfox via "the user-overrides.js", which I have used myself.
The learning curve might be steep for any newcomers, but it's worth it in my opinion. You definitely should go through the readme and the options yourself once and find out through trial and error what suits your needs.
In general, nothing beats Firefox in terms of customization options. I have created multiple Firefox profiles for several purposes.
Vivaldi is fine too, if I just want to quickly do something on sites of official/reputable services that fail on me otherwise.

Okabe (okabe_rintarou@shitposter.club)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Mar-2023 11:08:29 JST Okabe @coolboymew @mononoaware I forgot to mention that there are some must-have addons like Tree Style Tabs and uBlock Origin. I just generally block any third-party domain by default and enable them on a case-by-case basis - it really frees up a lot of resources for many sites.

Okabe (okabe_rintarou@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 29-Dec-2022 22:16:29 JST Okabe @mint I never had a Twitter account either, but podcasts are nice. I only really started listening to them ~1.5 years ago, but they're great to listen to on the side while exercising or even just playing something that doesn't require your full attention (think Fall Guys).
But I fully share your dislike of VTubers. These parasocial relationships are a plague on society. -
