Our brains have to work hard when we watch movies — to observe what's happening on screen, interpret the dialogue and follow the plots. Now, Popular Science reports on MIT research into how different movies show up on MRI scans. The team used a previously collected dataset including whole-brain scans from 176 adults who watched 60 minutes' worth of clips. "When the film’s content was difficult to follow or more ambiguous like during 'Inception,' activity was heightened in executive control brain regions. However, during more easy to understand scenes, the brain regions with specific functions — such as language processing — were the most dominated," writes Laura Baisas. See the second link for the full study in the Cell Press journal "Neuron."
Just watched Mean Girls the film of the musical and… wow. I’d put it up there with Hair. I hadn’t realised the musical was so good but also the film adaptation is just a modern masterclass in how to do a musical justice in film.

German politicians and media outlets are outraged that a jury member and the directors of the award-winning documentary “No Other Lands” condemn Israel for its war crimes at the Berlin Film Festival.
Véréna Paravel who presented the award stated, "Now there can be no more denying the relentless abject horror of Israel, illegal military occupation, and settlements." The Palestinian activist and filmmaker Basel Adra urged Germany to respect UN decisions and stop exporting weapons to Israel.
For me, it’s “Don’t Look Up” bc while the #movie is supposed to be satire, it’s terrifyingly plausible from my perspective as a former staffer who now studies science policy.
Hey everyone! I’m Ellie, a visually impaired queer actor based in Brighton, UK. I’m really passionate about authentic representation of disability on-screen and uplifting the voices of other disabled actors/creatives. If you’re queer and/or disabled, I’d love to chat! I love feeling represented/seen and I hope I can help others to feel the same.
Also, Mastodon is overwhelming so bear with me while I figure it all out.
