@WaughheadRex I had a job at 12 that was actually consistent. Got fired when the company realized they could save money hiring mexis because they could drive. From then on it was always piecemeal shitwork, and I had to tell anyone asking that I was family of the guy paying me.

@deprecated_ii @flappypaddle @caekislove @WashedOutGundamPilot Teens are just worth less money. Why would you hire teens if not to pay them less than adults? They have to handle extra legal liabilities and bureaucracy to hire them, and they're more likely to be less professional and cause trouble.
For 15$ an hour I can't feel bad for them. Adults working at McDonald's here can make as low as 3-4$ depending on how many hours they take, and our rent is higher than a lot of places in the US. -

Then ghost, then get hired again, supposedly. One guy there had done it 3 times already

Accidentally reloaded the page. You entered a contract upon employment that allows them to recoop "training costs", which generally meant you got less than minimum wage while being trained to do your job. As I recall it allowed for up to 90 days.. so if you were worthless or they just didn't like you, it'd be a simple way to force you out. -

They know working for them is necessary for a prospect cook's career, so they'll pay next to nothing to the point where it could be losing them money in gas to commute.
I know the junior staff of one such restaurant quit en masse at some point. -

It was partially still de facto segregated, there were parts you wouldn’t go in but the law still functioned so even if you were dumb there would be consequences for anyone trying something.
None of that’s true anymore, and it’s to the point that people are complaining there are rapists on the loose on nextdoor and they get banned for pointing out the race of the perp unless they, without comment, post a police report that actually states it outright in the description. More and more of these problems leak from a neighboring city that is no longer arresting people unless it’s at least assault.
Maybe you live somewhere where things haven’t gone to Hell but I don’t have the money to move.

Policies, limitations. and regulations you would definitely want but the reality is children did just fine in the work force right up until the day it was outlawed. Most family owned businesses piss on the law anyway and let their own children work for them and good on them.
