    I'm no expert, but a higher weight ammo will be more effective at shorter distances unless it's overpressurized. At some point the bullet will begin to tumble rather than spin. I would use a .308 as a standard battle rifle, or as a DMR within 600 meters and a 20 inch barrel. I don't think you'll have consistent results beyond that range with a .308 but your mileage may vary. I'm just some retard on the internet after all.

    a .308's maximum effective distance I think is 800 meters unless you reload your own special rounds. For that range, I'd personally recommend something like 6.5 Creedmoor.

    I was shooting some steel plates with a Mosin a couple weeks ago and DAMN I would not want to be in the way of that round. The "THWACK" that you can hear when the bullet strikes the plate is insane. Not so much an effective anti-personnel tool in the modern age but there's little doubt in my mind it can be used to disable a vehicle.

    A lot of people overestimate the efficacy of armor. Sure, the projectile may be stopped by the armor but the inertia is still carried through. It’s real easy to do the big sleep if you get struck in the dome with 00 buckshot regardless of whether or not the projectile is caught by the armor.

    If you get shot with a .308 in the chest at close range, wearing level 4 armor, you’re probably still going to end up with at the bare minimum a few fractured ribs.
