@leespringfield1903 @Eiswald @matty ‘Good” how? Reliable enough, just don’t expect too much out of your cheap chink mags without a lot of trial. I sold mine, they’re cool and all, but they’re just heavier than they need to be if you want optics. I love the romance of a wood stock, even fiberglass, but looking at the optic mounting system on there just killed me. I’d look down and realize I had like, a full pound of steel just to have a section of pic rail. I hate that, it’s tiring, it’s wasteful, and it’s less ammo/batteries you end up carrying in the long run.
I was trying to turn an M1a into an AR10. And as an Ar10, the M1a sucks. You have lower cap magazines, harder battery of arms (I tend to plan around the weakest shooter in my family/team, so rock&lock mags aren’t my fave) and all this extra weight trying to reform its ergos into a more modern gun.
If you’re willing to let the M1A be it’s own thing, then it’s a fine gun. I still love them, I just don’t have much use for one when the ammo is too costly to plink with. If you can happily live w/ scout scopes and M14-specific carriers then you’ll have a ball with it
