A Woman's Fancy
by Thomas Hardy.
"" Ah, Madam; you've indeed come back here?
'Twas sad — your husband's so swift death,
And you away! You shouldn't have left him:
It hastened his last breath."
" Dame, I am not the lady you think me;
I know not her, nor know her name;
I've come to lodge here — a friendless woman;
My health my only aim."
She came; she lodged. Wherever she rambled
They held her as no other than
The lady named; and told how her husband
Had died a forsaken man.
So often did they call her thuswise
Mistakenly, by that man's name,
So much did they declare about him,
That his past form and fame
Grew on her, till she pitied his sorrow
As if she truly had been the cause —
Yea, his deserter; and came to wonder
What mould of man he was.
" Tell me my history!" would exclaim she;
" Our history," she said mournfully.
" But you know, surely, Ma'am?" they would answer,
Much in perplexity.
Curious, she crept to his grave one evening,
And a second time in the dusk of the morrow;
Then a third time, with crescent emotion
Like a bereaved wife's sorrow.
No gravestone rose by the rounded hillock;
— " I marvel why this is?" she said.
— " He had no kindred, Ma'am, but you near."
— She set a stone at his head.
She learnt to dream of him, and told them:
" In slumber often uprises he,
And says: " I am joyed that, after all, Dear,
You've not deserted me! " "
At length died too this kinless woman,
As he had died she had grown to crave;
And at her dying she besought them
To bury her in his grave.
Such said, she had paused; until she added:
" Call me by his name on the stone,
As I were, first to last, his dearest,
Not she who left him lone!"
And this they did. And so it became there
That, by the strength of a tender whim,
The stranger was she who bore his name there,
Not she who wedded him."

@lain @augustus Now that looks quite something!
-
@augustus @lain Maybe you should be the one that gets to define it. I bet it'll look much better than this.
-
@lain @augustus Haha.
What would your ideal future architecture look like?
-
@augustus I wouldn't want to live there either. Apparently it is all futuristic and shit... but it just looks shit to me.
-
@Kottonballs That is the impression that I get. I do feel bad for the cinemas who are another victim of bad stories, but there is just nothing that I feel is worth going to them to watch these days. Especially at the prices being asked which only gets worse.
-
@Kottonballs Yeah, a lot of these films aren't even worth watching let alone streaming with any method you want.
-
@Kottonballs There are a few that I watched and thought could be mildly entertaining as their own thing, but they played on nostalgia of an IP... without sticking to the worldbuilding and lore set up already. So they were just jarring because they clearly wanted to do their own thing off it so it didn't feel like the IP. Which really makes them the equivalent of a cheap but high-budget knockoff rather than what you'd expect from the IP. Sad.
-
"my thoughts are with the real victims of hollywood...... The fans. Overwhelmed by bad stories, acting and foul messages. Stay strong my dear fans, stay strong."
Hear, hear. Hollywood thinks that the writers and actors have things bad, try being the fans that have to sit through so many bad stories in order to be entertained. And they have to pay for the privilege, not knowing entirely what they signed up for. Then they get blamed for not liking a film or TV series.

@coolboymew Yes, but that will be the norm. It's a play on owning nothing and being happy. We won't even have marriages or a family as the norm at this rate.
-
Soon, you will not have a wife and you will be happy.
-
It wouldn't surprise me if soon we won't have anywhere in the UK where we can gaze up and look at the stars because we've got urbanisation and bright lights everywhere.
-
@Moon @coolboymew @freezenet Are they even run by anglos at this point?
-
My admin has been offending people. Can nobody stop him?
-
How did spinster become more blocked than we are?
-
@yishengqingwa666 I can certainly see how that would earn you a few more instance blocks than we have. Although there is still quite a gap.
-
@lain Thanks. I need it. Haha. Think most of it is over for today.
-
Socialising is exhausting.
-
@augustus @lain Same here.
-
@thatguyoverthere Guess the spicy food I ate earlier in the week wasn't such a bad idea after all. I think you are right about recommending whole foods instead. Things that are nutritional for us.
I did recently hear that you can lose more weight if you exercise first thing in the morning, and then you eat after it. Not sure how easy that would be to do.
