Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 17-Jul-2023 01:56:02 JST Tapir @Frondeur @WashedOutGundamPilot Ok a bit off topic here
Basing this off of nothing except watching videos of animals and people with rabies: I kinda think the hydrophobia might actually be the inability/fear to swallow. Reason being is they are also aerophobic - fear of a draft or wind. Now these two things seem totally different from each other.
however, in vet med we will sometimes pill a dog/cat/ferret or get them to swallow meds by putting the meds in the mouth, holding the mouth closed, and blowing into the animal's nose. For some reason, the flush of air makes them swallow.
So that brings me to thinking that the fear is due to rabid people having an inability or difficulty to swallow. It makes sense that if you are having some difficulty in swallowing, you could begin to choke and the reptilian part of your brain is wanting to avoid that. -

But I know some animals do seek out ticks as a treat, like guinea hens. But the downside to guinea hens are their God awful calls. -

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Tuesday, 04-Jul-2023 12:51:50 JST Tapir I’m leaving.
If you’re looking to join the tapirverse, word of advice: don’t.
It’s just as bad as any form of 'herbivore’ social media except you can call ungulates “least-concern” or some variant and not get banned.
I find tapirverse a time wasting black hole, to put it quite simply. And my life goals have changed significantly over the past few months alone. I do not have any plans to kill the rain forest, Malayasiantap.ir will still be here.
The tapirverse was fun once, and then just stagnated into a constant circle of scratching one's head with their penis, inhaling one's farts underwater, silly faces, rhino-blaming, and proboscis-comparing to present a different narrative consistently.
Doesn’t help that many of the users on the tapirverse are genuinely even-toed and that number is growing by the day. -
Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 30-Jun-2023 18:57:52 JST Tapir Ok I think I have a really great idea to make some money.
Cottagecore is getting big but it's literally just a look and nothing else, right
Make a corner of your house/apartment into that cottagecore aesthetic. Get a bunch of B roll of like meadows and mountains and forests. Edit videos of a small girl baking or cross stitching in that corner, and pepper it with that b roll of cozy small towns and woods and pretend you live there. The 'girl' doesn't even need to be pretty because it's best to not even show her face (to appease self inserts).
Then when you get a following, buy a bunch of 'handmade' greeting cards made by slaves in Russia and sell them on your Etsy claiming you handmade them.
You could probably make a season's worth of content in one weekend. One issue though is you'd have to make new content every season - cottagecore looks like it rides hard with the different seasons. -

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 22-May-2023 02:07:46 JST Tapir @WashedOutGundamPilot TBF even though that dog was sleeping in their shop, it is likely just a stray dog that sleeps in that shop. India has a god awful problem with stray/feral dogs. -

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 07-Apr-2023 11:21:44 JST Tapir @WashedOutGundamPilot Ironically I've never met a lab that wouldn't kill a chicken if given the chance.
Many dogs if not trained will kill a prey like animal, regardless of breed. They're still predators under their cute exterior -
Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 07-Apr-2023 09:03:08 JST Tapir @WashedOutGundamPilot I do not understand whatsoever how a good dog breed is less likely to kill or stress livestock than a mutt.
All the dogs I've seen so far have been multiple different types of brown labs, at least 3, a German Shepherd, a husky, a chow chow, a Chihuahua mix, a miniature pinscher, and one medium scruffy mutt. Genuinely surprised at the amount of apparently stray purebreds in the area
You definitely have to know the laws in your area, and if you have animal control you need to utilize them, probably first before lethal action.
I would easily call animal control or trap these guys myself and bring them to a shelter. Problem is there is no animal control, and there is no shelter willing to take them. I have even heavily considered fixing them and rehoming, but Texas law makes it so it's actually less legal issues to kill the dogs on your property than rehoming lol -
Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 07-Apr-2023 02:42:45 JST Tapir Here comes what is probably a pretty hot take.
I have never been for loose roaming animals ever since I began working in a shelter, maybe even a bit before. I found it to be an unnecessary danger to the animal so owners can be lazy and neglect their mental and physical stimulation.
But now as I have been home for 2 hours today watching 3 roaming dogs and numerous cats pass through my yard, I'm now realizing I'm going to be the danger to these outdoor pets.
I plan on having a working farm. I can't have dogs chasing my ewes and causing miscarriages or attacking my lambs. I can't have cats preying on my quail or getting toxoplasmosis on my tomatoes. It could be an entire season of wasted time and money, all because a lazy owner didn't want to take care of their animal.
So I'm at a very difficult crossroads here. Being that there is no animal shelter or animal control, and this state's really dumb laws on pets as property, my choices are to find and talk to the owners and hope they keep their animals contained on their property, and/or shoot to kill. And that is not an option I want to do. Especially cats as they are hard to follow home and find an owner.
This is a PSA to keep your animals contained. -

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 06-Apr-2023 21:50:14 JST Tapir Found something very fuckin scary.
There's a feline disease called Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) that is 100% fatal, usually in a few weeks/months.
There has been a documented cure with an insanely high success rate with trials done at UC Davis. After trials, having the drug became illegal.
The reason being is because said drug is similar to a drug used in COVID 19 treatments and vaccines. Why is that a problem? Well they didn't want people to find poor side effects in cats from the drug used to treat FIP, which could potentially correlate to side effects with humans.
They literally don't want us to find out about COVID treatment side effects. But more importantly, we could be curing FIP right now. -

I know it isn't as important as what we eat, but our skin does absorb shit so I'd like to avoid poisoning my largest organ as much as possible. -
