    its 20 degrees F out and sleeting, and people here still leave their dogs outside. I had a few run onto my porch to escape the freezing rain, but they left by the time I got out there.

    @coolboymew @Moon @vriska Yessss! I make it a habit to look at least once a day and I have to scroll through the last 24h of stuff. I live in a rural area so there's not that much shit being posted but it's still a pain to know I might miss something if I don't scroll past boomers selling their heaps of metal or trying to give away puppies at parking lots

I thought that argument was unsound until I drank dirty water for 2 days because the announcement was on a Facebook page :aquaDisgust:

    @noyoushutthefuckupdad @coolboymew @sickburnbro Reminder that to be a nurse or vet tech in NY you had to pass an exam which was largely liberal talking points. it was read an emotionally charged essay about global warming or racial prejudice, and a multiple choice on what the essay tells us, basically what we learned.

    Shit is wild. Especially for someone that believes in climate change and not global warming. It was difficult trying to read between the lines because I'm a very technical person and can usually see propaganda tactics, or at least very skeptical of it.

    Apparently California has a LAW stating that if you buy cat/dog blood, that purchased blood HAS TO come from a closed-colony blood donor.

    A closed-colony blood donor is a cat or dog who live in these closed colonies and are 'bled' every couple of weeks.

    Only in 2022 were California vets allowed to operate a pet blood bank with donor blood. However, they are not able to compensate the owners whatsoever. Even giving a bandana saying 'I donate blood' was not allowed.

    Vets got around this by offering owners free vet services, such as vaccines and exams, which are commonly required prior to a blood donation.

    The current wait time for donor pet blood is between 9-24 weeks. Most vet offices will use employee pets as blood donors. Blood shortages pose a real problem for pet owners, and can often be the determining outcome for particular patients.

    I saw a cat at Lowe's and it meowed at me multiple times as I tried my cat tricks to summon it closer. I got impatient and tried to advance and s/he skedaddled.

    I apparently looked so distraught that someone at Lowe's actually stopped and asked if I was OK.

    This one was pretty bad, the first day this one kid up front kept asking her to repeat like every other sentence, sometimes up to 4 times, before giving up like halfway through the class. I don't think she memorized English language phrases, because she'd always be turned looking at the slide show and I figured she was reading off it. But that's NY education for ya.

    Heavy accents are fun, imo. Had a math teacher from Africa with that sort of colonized black accent, reminded me of memes

    The worst part was it was actually a pain in the ass to skip that class. But the prof was a young Chinese girl that literally no one understood, she just went through slides trying to read off them. Her voice was so grating I decided to just not show up.

    I'm still shocked and somewhat in disbelief at the way I had been treated, after giving it my all and asking for extremely little in return.

    Remember, there is no loyalty in work. don't care if you work at a hospice for orphan children; your employers, your employees, your coworkers, they are not and never will be your friend. They aren't at work for you (or in this scenario the dying orphan children), they are at work for themselves.

    You should be, too.

    I actually dealt with an AKC breeder today that actually won ribbons at some semi larger dog shows.

    It was awful. He was surrendering a bunch of dogs to the shelter that wouldn't sell. Was bitching to me that they normally go for a few grand, and that he kept lowering the price and still couldn't sell them for just $300. The dogs were various ages between 12 and 18 months, and never named them. Said "they just sit in the backyard, losing value" like they're some junk cars.

    Really making me wonder how many of these 'reputable breeders' are really reputable.
