@nixCraft I had a rare occasion when a friend asked if there is any other OS for his laptop because windows 10 was lagging on his laptop and usually you don't get that but more like "how to fix X in Windows", So I suggested Linux Mint and I definitely had expected a call some day for some issue but to my surprise nothing till date and he is using it without any problems. And the best part he installed it himself, I just gave instructions. Great job Linux mint team.

@itsfoss When I first saw the Linux filesystem, I literally thought /bin was the trash directory even though I knew few things about Android filesystem at the time and obviously they are quite different from each other but they had few similar elements.

@itsfoss Vim user here, is it weird to find vim easier than nano when it comes to key bindings. I don't know, when I was just getting into terminal editors, I found nano key bindings confusing and I know I did spent like an hour in vim-tutor but after that, I tried nano and nothing made any sense to me like why is it ctrl+x to quit but not ctrl+q. I just find it weird but nano is a good editor but I prefer vim.

@nixCraft As a gen z, I always feel weird when I see any mention of these technologies. My childhood was filled with Cassette tapes , CDs and keypad phones. So, I am not sure where do I fit in as far as tech is concerned.

@itsfoss @ubuntu Your website really helped me a lot with linux commands when I was just starting out.

@itsfoss @ubuntu Although linux mint was the first distro that I installed on my laptop but Ubuntu was the first distro that introduced me to Linux desktop and I used it in VM(virrual box). I liked mint and installed it but got screen tearing and switched to Ubuntu for a while and switched back to mint after a while but I liked both of them. It was an amazing journey for me with linux.

@itsfoss Frequent updates on arch and only security & bug fixes in Debian. That's it and everything else is extra good stuff that comes with the distro. Which is why I use both of those distros.

@itsfoss Flatpaks because the permission management of flatpaks are easier for me to understand than snaps.

@nixCraft I was confused between Debian and Arch so I am just dual booting debian and arch. I think I have settled for now and if I feel like using anything else, I am just going to use a VM. :blobmiou:

@itsfoss They say its just software, but for me its much more than that. :blobmiou:

@itsfoss The config files, they make life so much easier when switching between distros and its even better when using a window manager. Sure it takes time to initially setup the window manager but after that just move the config files to .config directory and you're done in less than 2 mins. :blobcatcoffee:

@itsfoss Oh btw whoever said that windows is easy don't account for the obvious "because you are used it" factor. My first proper interaction with an OS was Android 5 yep not windows. So I was so used to way of doing things in that way and I used to tinker with a lot and because of that I was familiar with filesystem. I got used to the filesystem with / and all directories. But when I got my first computer with Windows 10, you bet I was confused like what the hell with a way installing things.

@itsfoss It was roller coaster ride for me. I saw Ubuntu on a YouTube channel tried on Virtual box but then saw mint, so installed that on bare metal then got screen tearing so installed Ubuntu but because of reasons went back to windows. And this cycle of installing Linux using it for a week then going back to windows continued for almost 3 years until I decided to dual boot. I eventually got rid of windows because there's was no need for it anymore. I am using Linux exclusively since 2022. 😁

@itsfoss It was the first distro I installed on my laptop and I loved the green accent colors and I liked the menu as it's much better and clean looking than Windows 10. Its amazing how much they improved over the years. I started with 19.1, it basically started my Linux journey. :blobcatcoffee:

@itsfoss I don't understand why they do that and here I am dual booting Debian and Arch. I don't care if anyone find that weird, I just prefer it that way. Peace ✌️
