Embracing Serenity (Third ActivityPub Test)

So after being alerted by @tallship@public.mitra.social / @tallship@socialhome.network & @silverpill that my ActivityPub settings were a bit wonky, I decided to take some time & investigate. After further analysis, my settings were a bit wonky, as the site could no longer ping user handles (weird, I know). I decided to embrace the spirit of Serenity / Firefly & quit “fiddling” to find out what the issue was.

@markusl No, there would be no “lock in” with #Threads. #Meta will allow people to export their accounts elsewhere, although currently #Calckey (whose name is changing) would realistically be the only platform that could import the data from other #Fediverse accounts.

But by allowing an open door, people will probably not feel the need to ever leave, as they would always have a “plan B.”

@coolboymew When #Threads embraces #ActivityPub, I will have a way to communicate with my friends & family from #Misskey, #Mastodon, #Pixelfed, #WriteFreely & #WordPress.

Once they see the power of #Fediverse proper, they will begin to seek out alternatives. I will prepare myself to provide better options.

✌🏾 Twitter metrics are broken & there is no one around to fix them (which means advertisers are getting screwed over)

🤟🏾 Metrics are accurate but they are recording Twitter employees views (they can access private accounts).

All of these scenarios are alarming, especially the last one.
