@nixCraft Isn't chatgpt more likely to just make the problem worse?

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 13-Jan-2024 09:26:41 JST Nazo @arstechnica I would not count on Reddit holding out very long on actually protecting its users. Obviously this is just for show and if it comes down to it they'll hand over the information without fuss if the show becomes too inconvenient.

But hey. Apple products are shiny.

I can imagine Republicans getting behind it since it spells more money for the rich and less for the poor. I wonder how even they would feel if they properly understood that their data has been harvested without their permission and used to profit others and they don't get a single penny from it though.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 11-Jan-2024 08:03:04 JST Nazo @arstechnica It's sad that it's so impossible to get people and companies to realize that LLMs are not AI. You can't actually put guardrails on them because they have (by definition) no actual understanding. There will always be a way around guardrails because all they can do is simple stuff like try to filter specific words or phrases and that type of thing. Guardrails are nothing more than an illusion. Unfortunately, besides willful acts to go around, there will also always be accidents.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 11-Jan-2024 07:48:17 JST Nazo @nixCraft WTF. No way I'm clicking on *ANY* of those. Every single one of them is as anti-consumer as a company can get. At least toss in some company where there is *some* room to claim they won't abuse the heck out of your data willingly and knowingly.

I always thought they would be a lot larger. Or is it showing the image of the whole thing but really describe only the Swartzchild radius?

Meanwhile, in reality they really aren't that great (and most passwords are "hacked" by simply downloading leaked databases and tricking users anyway...) What astounded me though was the moment I realized NexusMods has higher password requirements than my bank. I literally have had to give up on sites like NexusMods and store my password plaintext somewhere.

One potential consideration has been, of all things, methane. If so there is potential life in some of the incredibly cold methane lakes on some of this solar systems moons even. This has potential to even be more widespread as oxygen/CO2 function requires a better temperature balance.
For all we know there may be other possibilities we haven't even considered. For example, there's ton of nitrogen. What if something used that?

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 10-Jan-2024 05:58:48 JST Nazo @arstechnica It really didn't make it clear to me how lack of syncing with a modern digital LCD/OLED screen could cause blurring supposedly. I've never seen an actual blur. Also, backlighting should be a constant (DC by definition!) LED on any screen modern enough to support gsync... It's at a rate of 1 or 0, not "60Hz" or whatever.
Otherwise this just sounds like nVidia's proprietary version of adaptive refreshing as in the more open FreeSync. Great, but closed never is good for a market.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 10-Jan-2024 05:19:18 JST Nazo @arstechnica Man, it's almost like the GLOBE is WARMING or something. Seriously, sometimes it really feels like the overall CLIMATE is showing a marked CHANGE towards HIGHER TEMPERATURES.
But it is cold today, so obviously none of that is true.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 10-Jan-2024 05:09:49 JST Nazo @arstechnica Funny, they don't seem to mind government funding going to private schools. You know, if I didn't know any better I would think it's not actually about the money. Like, for example, if they didn't want people to have easy and accessible access to varied information sources or something just for example. But of course that would be awful and they all assure us they're very moral people, so it can't be that.

Wait, this isn't a vacuum cleaner? Maybe, uh, might be a good idea to go back to the drawing board and look at it more closely then?
