I think the only way this even remotely hurts him is if the power structure has had enough of his senior moments.

like most things involving bio/chemical processes: it's complicated. generally, the body has an immune response to deal with chitin. receptors trap it and the immune system destroys it. I imagine you should avoid large amounts of it from sources that aren't normal (eating ze bugs), but I'm not terribly concerned about eating mushrooms. I remember there was some talk about this during the covid vax times but I don't remember exactly what it was, but I seem to remember people saying it was in the vax (which makes some sense if it causes an immune response).

Jeff Lawton in particular was very big on working with weeds/pioneer species to condition soil, but also the need to understand your local ecosystem and find stuff that you can work with, instead of against (to your point).

Another adjacent topic is how to use livestock systems to improve and restore large areas of soil, this is a sort of holy grail of permaculture since modern factory farming/livestock systems are extremely destructive to the soil and pose a huge risk to our food security since we've become so completely reliant on these methods.

I'm gonna put some nest boxes in (they currently just nest on the barn floor) and hope it helps to teach him 'not those eggs'
