@jeff You're probably talking about some "eco-activism", but it works the same way for everything: fighting for women's rights isn't hating men, fighting for black rights is not hating white. It doesn't do anyone any good, it only atomizes the society and everyone loses except for those in power and corpos.

TBH, it was indeed bad at the time: a bunch of teenagers making requests over DLS could take your website down (LOIC or whatever?), I think you could make a Windows machine unresponsive with tcpdump over LAN — fun times 🤣
But this was still a bad idea!

But on some of my computers the hostname (and username) are in dwm's bar and as the line updating it is run from .xinitrc, I can't just kill that process and start it again, altering it would requite restarting the session. Maybe I can just change it with xsetroot and have a few seconds to make the screenshot, but anyway — it's a hassle and I'm like: "Okay, not now, maybe next time" 🤣

@moffintosh Being critical of the West is okay, but why whitewash Stalin — he was just as much a piece of shit as Hitler was. The top arguments are debatable, yet, German–Soviet Boundary and Friendship Treaty is very real. Did anyone else have a friendship treaty with the Nazis? The article in Pravda in which Stalin is very protective of Hitler is also very real. Talking about defending someone from Hitler in this light is just laughable — fighting over spheres of influence isn't protecting.

@moffintosh And yes, Soviet Union was also doing bussiness with Hitler, trains carrying commodities were moving till the very invasion, the worst part is that Germany might not have enough resources to start the invasion had this not been happening. SU was providing training grounds to German pilots at Lipetsk air base. Soviet Union was extraditing Jews to the Nazi Germany to their imminent death, there is so much more than M-R pact. Pinning it on the West is wrong on so many levels.

@Sabex @yukiame @Helgi There are lots of distros that don't use systemd, there are even such Debian and Arch forks. I've never used Slackware properly, but I think you'll find Void appealing — that is what I use and it uses runit by default, I think you can even replace it with other init (dinit and whatnots).
There definitely are alternatives moving in the opposite direction — away from systemd.

I mean even if Patrick goes nuts there are others to pick up the ball. The demand for staying away from it is definitely there.
I even manage to get by not having pulseaudio in my system or that new thing they came up with as a replacement — might not be that bad, I just don't need it. Have to use apulse for Firefox, everything else works as is.

Yeah, I remember. This was an actual editor for new puzzles. But most used this mode just to do weird shit and have fun so having a goal still sounds funny.

These people have more in common with other professional politicians than with average person of coulour or man or woman or transgender person…

@thatguyoverthere And I'm not against even that — go ahead, try it, if that works we'll all admit it and say thank you, but don't try to impose that on those who don't find that theory believeable. That's not how representation works. There are a bunch of straight white dudes there, but they don't represent me in any way and I hate most of them, I find it hard to believe that picking more of the same kind of people, but with different exterior is going to fix things 🤷

@thatguyoverthere That's exactly what's wrong with that kind of thinking that senator/MP/whatever is appropriate in your country who is technically a minority somehow represents this minority. It's their rich and powerful social group they most often care about, not the people whom they share ethnicity/skin colour/sex/gender with.

@thatguyoverthere Getting a Talos 2 to check emails and do some web browsing might seem inefficient, but maybe it's not such a bad idea after all. I mean in comparison 😂
