> probably wouldn't use these very specific words with hyphen -
Most search boxes (Pleroma's included) do what is called "stemming", so the words get much less specific, and usually normalizing the query removes the hyphen. You can play with it if you have Postgres laying around somewhere:
> oh, so we have a complete list of the names of the individuals actively trying to kill the internet?
Brian Suits told a story about his time in Iraq. Power had to stay on, water had to stay on, right? So he said that when it didn't, they'd go into a town, they'd see the guy that was in charge of the power plant, water, whichever, invariably the mayor's idiot brother or cousin or something like that. And the guy would sell the copper to someone, or he'd get drunk and not show up to work, or someone would bribe him to turn it off for a few days. So they'd start bringing the boss over to see this guy, the lieutenant or whoever would do a meet and greet with him, then photo op, and they'd sit and sip tea. And then he'd say "All right, the power needs to stay on here. It was off all week last week. If it goes off this week, we're going to take this photo of you and me shaking hands, walk through town, and make sure everyone sees that photo, and ask them if they know where to find you because we owe you money for helping us out."
So, you know, maybe these people are legit awful, or maybe these people are on the shit list of someone else.
> you just enable the "jail" for any services that you might be running
If it's easier and it doesn't do what I want, it doesn't matter. In this case, it's also not easier. Your mileage may vary. You might want something different.
When you need a real programming language, it's easier to use a real programming language than the ad hoc one they cram into an overgrown config file. It's easier to debug a piece of code that is smaller than the config file would have to be. It's easy to add a piece that, in the same pass, does, say, a running average of backend response time and only bothers with the reqs that are at least a standard deviation over the average. It can draw a histogram. Give me another five lines and the histogram can be an SVG; I don't want an SVG so it doesn't.
I don't know why you wanna argue about this, I don't wanna argue about it. If it works for you, great.
