Honestly the more I think about it, the odder my dad really was. I recall when I was a child he mentioned building houses and having to do the "trigger nomertry" to make sure it didn't implode on itself. I remember watching him do it, too. But I also recall him trying to read like a paragraph or two from novels to help me with my homework and he just couldn't. Novels for children. Then in the mid 1990s he bought a computer with a modem, for Internet access, well before anybody else in my extended family except my uncle. He took a remedial reading course provided by his church just so he could read the instruction manual to actually use the damn thing.

I think his natural intelligence was more than people wanted to admit, and he just didn't get none o' that schoolin' because he was a hillbilly survivalist from Appalachia. Kind of tragic in hindsight.

My dad thought things like this, but oddly he wasn't very heavy handed about his response. He just told me to be careful, to always remember that it's not real, and to not take it too seriously. If he were some goodie-two-shoes paladin, I think it would actually make him less relatable in this context. People would think, "Hey, I'm willing to make a deal with the devil, kind of, just for a little part of my soul, but not the whole thing. I won't die on every little hill." It's just that we're being shown with Trump that "a little piece" isn't enough. You sell the whole damn soul or none of it. Now that it's all-or-nothing, every schmuck with a DWI because his ex-wife divorce raped him relates. They understand. And seeing him get railroaded by a system makes them relate even more, because everybody with a net worth less than $1mn has been railroaded by some faggot, somewhere. They get it. They don't like it. People are seeing manifest injustice not against a pure soul but against a flawed one, and they're having a primal reaction to it. They see themselves.

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of Trump, but trying to incarcerate your primary political opponent while removing him from the ballot merits an extreme response. I think the American right wing is entering its final decision point: at the top, openly declare the election rigged, declare Trump the president effective immediately, and roll in the tanks on any jurisdiction saying otherwise, and at the bottom, treat any shitlib talk as fighting words. The alternative is living through a Soviet-tier Cultural Marxist regime outright.
