    i feel like tapping this sign again, but the exchange of ideas between America and Japan cannot be understated. anime exists because of American animation. tropes like anime maids and a great deal of japanese fantasy has its roots in western fantasy. this exchange hasn't stopped, and everyone running eastward for storytelling is going to get increasingly disappointed as time goes on and Japan continues to take ideas and themes from current hollywood.

    been talking about this a lot lately, but the talent Studio Giggex has shown off in the last few weeks is a rarity in the western world.
    so the method they used for the Shadow shorts is 2D animation on top of 3D models, they're penciling in the faces, particle effects, etc on a frame-by-frame basis. this is less like Spider-Verse (which was 3D animation with 2D effects) and more like Iron Giant and Prince of Egypt. this shot of Maria turning her head is practically impossible in anime because you can't have both a good three-quarter view and side view, but here it works perfectly.
    i really hope Giggex sticks around. this is a long-abandoned style.
