@Zerglingman Perl's a creature of its era and a genuinely bad language today, and so obviously and subtly repulsive that Python won out despite being enormously slower, not having any kind of package system, not having anything like Perl's wealth of libraries, etc. People picked the objectively inferior technology just to get away from Perl's crazy and unsettling features. Larry Wall then tried to resolve this situation by creating a successor language that was completely assembled out of crazy and unsettling features-but new ones! He got rid of some of the more obviously bad stuff!
For example, what do you think the output of this program is?

@shadowpages No, this is what you all losing looks like: there is no such thing as a sexual identity. You have your biology, your interests, and the way that you live your life. No force binds your biology and interests together; no force demands that you have a particular way of life given particular interests. Nobody is "born that way" when it comes to thousands of anonymous sexual encounters in public bathrooms. Men (biology) who like men (interests) drink the kool-aid and then (way of life:) choose to live that way, destroying themselves with degeneracy like no such men ever did in history. Nobody is "born that way" when it comes to living sexless lives with excessive domestic abuse. Women (biology) who like women (interests) drink the kool-aid and then (way of life:) choose that live that way. The entire concept of sexual identity is a vehicle for grooming, a way of inducing others into going to your preferred bars and being more willing to suck your cock at the expense of both your and their better lives.
LGB-minus-T is just gay people realizing that the reaction to trans nonsense is going to totally derail their long-term efforts towards legalizing pederasty. -

Ruby has problems as well, including some modern Perl-tier problems where dumb features are added in one version and then stripped in the next so you can run into code that depends on a precise version of the language. And its historical problem was managing to be slower than even Python for a bit too long. But at least it had nice predicate? methods -

Python has 'strong' typing btw, as opposed to 'weak' typing. I feel like this instance where an implicit function implicitly converts any object into a boolean and you're encouraged to use that so that you could hypothetically have some 'falsy' data with non-zero length, is a good time to remind you that Python is definitely on the 'strong' side of the imaginary strong/weak axis of typing. -

story: on a military base in the middle east where completely free refrigerated water bottles were constantly available, they still sold dust-covered water bottles at the exchange. On a lark I bought one, took a sip, then spat it out as it tasted like death. These weren't 'microplastics', but visible shards throughout the water. -

Are they ok? Are they laying on the floor unconscious? etc etc), cleaners, the post man, the amazon delivery guy/gal, the list is endless. I have to keep half a brain "on-call" to listen out for and react to these interruptions.
the list is "endless", but what happens on any particular day is 0-1 of the items on the list. A workplace has that many interruptions per day.
on worry: when you're at the workplace, you're also too far away to help your family if they need it. "Can't help anyway; out of mind" might help you keep focus at work, but "If I'd only WFM I could've saved my child that was on the floor unconscious" will also be pretty distracting as an inner demon. These are pretty lame reasons, man. -
