@thatguyoverthere I’ve tried nitter in the past and found it so laggy that it’s unusable.

When I added a feed from it either here or to my RSS reader, I’d get nothing for a week or two from an account that posts twice a day and then suddenly get dozens of delayed posts at once.

@thatguyoverthere I deliberately bought one that’s large bird proof, and it has indeed defeated the local crows, but sadly the small birds don’t seem to know what it is.

Is anyone else finding that Twitter’s back to being impossible to use without logging in? Can’t even view a single post the last day or so.

@thatguyoverthere I’ve got the opposite problem atm, I’m forever scattering seed near the feeder to try and teach the local birds where it is!

@thatguyoverthere From experience, don’t get more feeders.

I did that, and filled them up when they were empty rather than on a regular schedule, then looked around one day and realised I was spending more on bird food than I was on dog, horse and duck combined.

My leek flower just keeps getting taller!

Today in the garden, I have been sieving lovely compost and pottering.

Early potatoes looking nearly ready, lovingly nurtured indoor-down peas (bottom left) and runner beans (the cluster of bonsai leaves at the base of the cane) continue to not be a patch on the ones I just plonked in the ground.

@thatguyoverthere That sounds pretty typical, unfortunately. The roads really do seem to have got into a shocking state the last few years, though. You can tell the locals on the main road because they weave about like drunks, instinctively avoiding them.

The local council’s evidently come into some money: they’ve been out with the white spray paint, enthusiastically marking up not only potholes but also just slightly iffy bits of fairly minor road.

Now to see if the money, and enthusiasm, extends further than just buying cans of spray paint!

God, I love it up here.

With the breaking news of a debris field being found in the search, US Coast Guard has announced it will hold a press conference at 15:00 local time (20:00 GMT).

A statement from the Coast Guard says the Horizon Arctic’s ROV (remotely operated vehicle) found debris on the sea floor near the Titanic wreck.

@GalacticTurtle I mostly use butter, unless I’m doing something like a stirfry where it’s hotter and I use vegetable oil.

I do sometimes use olive oil, but I prefer butter.

@TinyHouse4Life I have a Dutch oven, I just deliberately got a small one exactly so that I can use it on the fire if the power goes out!

Adventures in bread baking: beer and oat bread.

Fortunately, I woke up a bit earlier than usual this morning so was able to (after a quick consult with Husband — “That’s ready to shape and prove right now”) bake it before walking Dog, rather than after as planned.

It’s nice and tasty, but I baked it in my jam pan hoping it would trap enough steam to replicate a nice crusty dutch oven affect. It did not, no crunch to be found :(

May have to look for a cheap earthenware casserole dish. I’m not buying a big dutch oven just for occasional crusty bread.
