cracky (cracky@rot.gives)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Feb-2023 18:37:09 JST cracky @driftwood there is something touching about it because obviously like, god doesn't have to listen to michael, but he does. god wants michael there to play this role -

cracky (cracky@rot.gives)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Feb-2023 18:36:52 JST cracky typical days in heaven are like
michael: humans should probably be getting water is anyone like giving water to humans
sexy angel: yeah i got this really good water and i just kinda shimmy it down to them off my dope body
michael: ok that seems good
really gross angel: *bleeds all over the water for the humans*
michael: Fuck outta GET OUT OF HERE fucking GROSS -
cracky (cracky@rot.gives)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Feb-2023 18:36:51 JST cracky this scene is actually extremely embarrassing for michael because like, its happening in front of john. yhwh basically said that john could take like a elementary school field trip with a cherubim chaperone and he definitely shouldn't be seeing that there are gross angels that will sometimes bleed all over the shit thats getting sent down to earth -
cracky (cracky@rot.gives)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Feb-2023 18:36:50 JST cracky also even in non-apocryphal works it really seems like god fully does not like humans -
cracky (cracky@rot.gives)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Feb-2023 18:36:50 JST cracky i do think its really underappreciated how comical a lot of this is - like the vulgar and the divine have this constant comedy of error dynamic going on that's fascinating. old testament fragments ive read have also been really funny, like asmodeous trying to give solomon the shamir but solomon can't be tempted because he's always drunk and asleep. anyway:
john: father im confused about like, famine. couldnt you just make it so there isn't famine
yhwh: honestly like just come up here and check it out lemme show you how this whole thing works. ill send an uber just pray for a while
john: ok
*incomprehensible nightmare being shows up that scares literally all the apostles so bad they're out cold*
john: dude like WHAT IS THIS??
yhwh: ohhhh... :( you dont like it.... :( -

cracky (cracky@rot.gives)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Feb-2023 18:36:46 JST cracky @driftwood it does kind of feel a lot of the time like michael is god's domestic partner or something.
god: they keep SINNING
michael: i know honey but you cant kill them
god: im gonna KILL THEM
michael: honey if you kill them im gonna be really mad
god: ok i wont kill them but they only get a little water -
cracky (cracky@rot.gives)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Feb-2023 18:36:44 JST cracky @driftwood im still struggling with the cherub casually dropping that god didn't make water, implying that someone else did before god showed up and god refuses to say who -
cracky (cracky@rot.gives)'s status on Monday, 06-Feb-2023 10:01:26 JST cracky @ehhh @Kyonko802 translation is fascinatingly complex and nuanced and interesting in the abstract but the fact that this is about anime makes me guess that these people arent exactly ezra pound translating greek tragedies
the sort of things theyre doing i imagine are like the differences between various performances of a composed piece right. fournier is playing it but bach still wrote it. if someone is acting like they're an auteur for their translation it better be like a "kung pow enter the fist" degree of projecting your own vision onto it. the politics present are that you should be doing your best to capture what you believe the author intended (or finding other ways to communicate that to the audience) and if you aren't doing that then you're getting further and further away from the act of translating
i havent paid attention to this drama at all but this is my official stance -
cracky (cracky@rot.gives)'s status on Monday, 06-Feb-2023 10:01:25 JST cracky @ehhh @Kyonko802 also the more i think about it the more it's weird like. why are these translators in a position of screaming at their audience "YOU DONT UNDERSTAND MY GENIUS"? who are they translating /for/? -

it really feels like the crux of the whole thing
you grab an ezra pound translation if you like poetry and want to see a curmudgeon riffing on language. if you're a classics major you grab the version that has all the footnotes about translation ambiguities instead.
if you're viewing translation as /art/ rather than /labor/, then as an artist you still have to care about - at least acknowledge - your audience. if you're a painter and everyone tells you your paintings suck then you either figure out what makes people like a painting or decide to just paint for yourself. or you can stoke active confrontation with the audience if you're more of a performance artist than a painter. but i think the ppl in this discord are just confusing a lot of concepts rather than performance artists -
