I don't know if they'll make it long enough to get married.
You remember that security researcher five or ten years back that sat at this busy pedestrian intersection in Berlin in the middle of the day and sniffed bluetooth addresses, mapped them to manufacturers, and it was something like one buttplug MAC for every four people that walked by? I remember thinking "What the fuck is going on in that country?" I think it was on HN, I can't find it.

> Wow, he actually went out of his way to dig up an old argument
Don't flatter yourself, man, I remembered that argument, because it was kind of mystifying how someone could be that far up his own asshole.

pistolero (p@fsebugoutzone.org)'s status on Thursday, 16-May-2024 22:30:04 JST pistolero @rdr @0 @maestro @mint @r000t @tinfoil-hat I used it for maybe fifteen years; I don't remember when I switched from other-vi to vim. Some time around 6.0 or 7.0, I started getting apprehensive whenever I updated: "What new awful shit will I have to disable?" The most recent horror was the stupid load order, which was hopelessly byzantine to begin with, changed in 8.0 or around there. I just used strace and moved things to before/after files until I got it to do what I wanted again. I keep it on this machine for exactly one purpose: `git diff | vim -`. It is a pretty good diff reader. Otherwise, nvi and busybox's vi are both much more reasonable. -

I think I could probably survive on just ed. Maybe if my machine had a non-glass tty, ha.
I mean, :ken: still uses sam, and it's basically ed with windows. It's a pretty reasonable editor, I use it once in a while. -

Degeneracy.
Anyway, I usually use ed if I'm not using acme. Or both, sometimes if I'm using the shell in an acme window, I will use ed to edit a file.

> I have now an uptime from 28 days
Ha, that's cool. Shoot for the high score.
My personal high score was when my desktop machine hit 804 days a few years ago. I had a Twitter account that would spit out the thing's uptime, eventually expanded to multiple machines.
Elon killed the API April of last year, though, and I didn't put the bot on fedi. That kinda sucked, because it was in continuous operation from 2008-10-07 06:33:39 to 2023-04-15 03:00:07. My account was idle/locked and the last few messages were about FSE, friends that worked at Twitter had vested and cashed out, they'd killed off the API that bitlbee used so I had to actually use their terrible website if I wanted to interact with Twitter and it was all politics or celebrity news because ~*~EnGaGeMeNt~*~ and it was not a great place to talk to friends about weird shit so I took a break from it in 2016 because I was so sick of election news and I was gone by the time FSE arrived, but the little bot was still chugging along. That bot was kind of my last tie, so there was some sentimental value attached. When Twitter decided to hold it down until the bubbles stopped, it might have been the oldest bot that was still running.
I'm very glad fedi exists; I'm not Twitter's ideal user, probably no one in this thread is the consumer they are looking for. I am glad to be here, I'm glad there's a here here.
