The bad news is Disney / Pixar's Inside Out 2 is the biggest hit of the year, and likely to remain so:
Inside Out 2 is blasting past expectations and headed towards a $155-million opening, according to Disney’s Sunday-morning announcement. That’s comfortably more than the $146.4 million The Super Mario Bros. Movie made on its opening weekend last year, and second only to Incredibles 2 on the list of biggest opening weekends for animated movies...
Inside Out 2 has an audience that skews female (62% vs. 38% male), and somewhat on the young side: 23% of the audience this weekend is 12 and under, 15% in the 13–17 age group, 18% from 18–24, 19% from 25–34, 15% from 35–44, 6% 45–54, and 3% 55 and older. Parents make up 23% of the audience, to go with the 23% “kids” audience (per Disney’s definition) of moviegoers 12 and under.

Many years later a successful sitcom producer let them in on the secret. Insipid drivel like Friends, Cheers and The Cosby Show (lol) succeeds because the audience comes to see the characters as their friends and this parasocial relationship generates false coziness whenever it's on.

@TrevorGoodchild I may have mentioned a blog post by a kike who explained - waaaaay before any of the recent faggotry, so around 2014 or so - that Disney would not be changed by Star Wars, Disney was going to change it. His thesis was that Disney was a feminine company whose entire customer base was female and it would warp any boy's franchise it absorbed. He was not exactly a prophet as this had already happened to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. In the case of less sexually dimorphic properties like the Muppets it was less damaging, but for space combat fantasy it was fatal. -

Of course the reason it was the best is he set up all sorts of stuff he'd never be able to pay off even if he had stayed in charge (who are Rey's parents?, why is the force so stronk in her?, who is Snoke?, why did Kylo turn to the dark side?, how did the First Order get so powerful?, what will Luke do next?) and he killed of Han to give it emotional weight, a trick you could only do a few times... and they did, wiping out the original heroes entirely (cokehead Carrie forced their hand in Leia's case). -

@NoDoxGregBrady I had been waiting for episodes 7, 8 and 9 since 1977 so there was no scenario where I was going to skip them, or even delay seeing them and risk spoilers. This factor was largely responsible for the massive boxoffice not only of The Force Awakens but of The Phantom Menace. You had several generations (Boomers and Xers) that were going to see them no matter what.
The dropoff in subsequent episodes was the result of what we all saw.
Red Letter Media can't discuss the causes because Youtube videos are how they make a living. They don't want to end up like Molymeme.
