    @ThePoastmasterGeneral I was thinking about this as I watched Mike and Rich at Red Letter Media make excuses for Disney and The Acolyte, the big gay lesbian Star Wars show. Mike was raised on nothing but visual media, he does not READ. So there was no opportunity for Heinlein or Pournelle to smack some sense into him. Therefore he does not understand why you can't just swap a man for a woman in a hero's journey. Never mind understanding that the 'wokening' is jew astroturf.

    BTW when Heinlein said that war is inevitable and it is a man's duty to protect women and children half the audience booed.

    That was in 1976. If he were alive today he wouldn't even be invited to speak, but if he grabbed the mic and made a similar statement he'd be lucky to avoid being lynched.

    @DW2 Biggest new IP is Minions, which is a spinoff of Despicable Me, a creation of a second tier CG company that designed the minions to be simple and cheap to animate. Minions also have the advantage of being fantasy creatures with no stake in racial politics, all being the same shade of yellow.

    A nasty executive George Lucas met with had gloated that by 1978 Star Wars would be yesterday's news because the public was fickle. Lucas was so angry about this that he decided then and there that he would extend the runway of Star Wars' theatrical release as much as possible. He had noted that whenever TV publicity was done - Ford appearing on a chat show, Star Wars characters making a cameo on a variety program - ticket sales bumped up. So he cut a deal for an ill-defined 'holiday' themed special to air in November 1978. This would boost ticket sales and provide a plug for the Kenner Star Wars toy line. But as far as the content went Lucas had a vague notion of a wookiee holiday and the awful idea that the beasts should speak in unsubtitled wookspeak. Then he abandoned it to TV variety writers and a Canadian film student director who had to be fired and replaced by the director of the Elvis Comeback special - but the latter was out of time and could not save it.
