Garden of Eden was the original paradise. Humanity was unsatisfied with paradise because they took it for granted and had no conception of what it would be like to lose that paradise and suffer. Suffering teaches us gratitude, and gratitude opens our hearts to feeling joy. There's a reason why the risen Christ still has the wounds of the cross, they are His ultimate gift to us, that they might remind us to be grateful and joyful eternally.
