@matty I can’t remember the idea, but a fren told me something once about how the mosin is effectively the budget AP rifle in the USA. I think it had something to do with the amount of penetration you get from the steel core surplus ammo…. but it may have been because you could find their old russian black tip at gun shows for less than a dollar a round.
Those days are done, and I wouldn’t really be comfy fighting with a Mosin in anything less than, say 300 yards. They’re VERY hard to work under stress, that stubby bolt is a recipe for trouble when you have to keep your eyes up on target while you take return fire
Actually the garand Black tip used to be around, too.
