Kenny Blankenship (dw2@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 16-Apr-2023 01:50:52 JST Kenny Blankenship As Dmitry Orlov once pointed out, most of the US Economy is just Americans overcharging each other for overpriced services
Not only that, but collection agencies, law firms and even investment banks can make a mint by purchasing debts accrued from these services for nearly nothing, and collecting it themselves. A lot of financial institutions also yield huge revenues from servicing debt.
It's parasitism all the way down.- luithe, Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks and Weaf :jv::nv: like this.

d (deprecated_ii@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 16-Apr-2023 01:57:14 JST d @DW2 hospital charges have very little relation to what it actually cost them + reasonable profit margin so most of the debt that isn't being paid is fake anyway, they just made it up Kenny Blankenship likes this.🌲Number 1 Pleroma Criminal on XBL 🇵🇱|🇺🇸 repeated this. -
d (deprecated_ii@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 16-Apr-2023 01:57:32 JST d @DW2 pharmaceuticals are far more expensive in the US than in africa, because the pharmaceutical companies know africans can't pay $10 a dose. so they charge africans $0.10 a dose and then charge americans $15 a dose

They are a cartel, but this is a huge fear for them because of this reason. It opens up a Pandora's box for a single reform to kill price gouging. It could still happen now, but muh free market crowd would fight that hard. Fighting exploitation of tax dollars and pork spending would activate that same crowd against pharma.luithe likes this. -
Boomerman (boomerman@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 17-Apr-2023 22:37:53 JST Boomerman @DW2 @deprecated_ii Obamacare made it law. Mandated health insurance and the government minimum plan was 3 times higher than what was being charged prior and they banned anything below that minimum. Its all fake and gay insurance upon insurance, debt on debt. Kenny Blankenship likes this. -
Kenny Blankenship (dw2@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 17-Apr-2023 22:42:07 JST Kenny Blankenship @Boomerman @LouisConde @deprecated_ii Whether it’s medical debt, student loan debt, car loan debt or credit card debt, the whole system is set up to milk you dry, especially if you’re under 40. You’re in some form of debt slavery your entire adult life
The plantation-era bondage of White Americans never went away; it just changed its form. -

Shadowman311 (shadowman311@poa.st)'s status on Tuesday, 02-May-2023 13:03:48 JST Shadowman311 @BowsacNoodle @DW2 @deprecated_ii As much as people like to shit on boomers (myself included), the flipside is also true. Asking people over childbearing ages to pay for maternity care was also a ridiculous absurdity that Obamacare tried to shove through, at least in the way it tried to do it. In both instances, the government showed that it has no desire to make the already apocalyptically bad medical system better, and in fact seeks to make it worse.
It's really telling that sensible people in some war torn African shithole have the same advice as sensible people in America in regards to centralized medical care "seek alternatives and don't go to the hospital if at all possible". Definitely a first world country we live in. -
Santa Noodle ☦️ (bowsacnoodle@poa.st)'s status on Tuesday, 02-May-2023 13:03:48 JST Santa Noodle ☦️ @Shadowman311 @DW2 @deprecated_ii It's a dumb system. But the maternity care thing is kind of a funny example, because boomers want grandkids and they created economic and social situations that made it extremely difficult for young people. Boomers want social security and Medicare, and they need more bodies to fund it down the road. I know the individual boomer is as much at fault for these problems as the individual millennial or zoomer is for troons, so I try to take it easy on those who did their best with bad information. The politicians who sold out our country deserve more contempt than I have words for. Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -
Shadowman311 (shadowman311@poa.st)'s status on Tuesday, 02-May-2023 13:03:49 JST Shadowman311 @BowsacNoodle @DW2 @deprecated_ii Medicare for all, in the sense that can be currently imagined by the human mind, would in theory kill price gouging since the feds would be footing the bill and would likely get pissed off at the medical providers for clearly ripping them off for procedures whose actual costs the feds know damn well. But this is America, and every policy must fuck over as many people as possible, especially White people, and must also result in the largest amount of human suffering as it possibly can. So any actual implementation would almost certainly be made in such a way to not only continue price gouging, but actively encourage it to become worse. -
Santa Noodle ☦️ (bowsacnoodle@poa.st)'s status on Tuesday, 02-May-2023 13:03:49 JST Santa Noodle ☦️ @Shadowman311 @DW2 @deprecated_ii That’s why it must not happen. Obama could’ve done it and gave us the worst version of both worlds. 20 something’s in good health get to finance the 58 year old diabetic’s toe amputation because it’s totally reasonable to have them in the same risk pool. We can’t just force insurance to cover those people at fixed prices! Let’s force everyone to get insurance so we can screw over young people who unequivocally have better health and less chronic conditions. That’s the free market baby! It makes me sick man.

The kernel of truth in his advice is debt arbitrage, e.g. carry low interest loans and use the cash to invest in high return ventures, the returns will cover loan payments and make you money. -
