But you're right, regulations are also use to squash out competition. It also keeps people who want to buy questionable things, like raw milk products, from being able to accept the risks and doing so. The state has even tried to work with the guy to decontaminate his tanks, but he just ignores them and keeps selling.

And in the US, the food industry has lobbied against labeling GMO food. So unlike many places in Europe, you can't tell if a food comes from genetically modified crops by the packaging.
