@eythian In the 90s in the US you could dial a prefix before the phone number to choose a specific long distance provider, often to get better rates than the main provider associated with the originating line.
I have a client who pays me by writing a check, taking a photo of it with his phone, and texting it to me.
I then deposit it by transferring the photo to my laptop, displaying it fullscreen, then using my phone's bank app to take a picture of the laptop screen.
The crazy part is this is totally fine. The app doesn't care about the obvious moire pattern (and in this last case, a fireplace in the background), and there's nothing in the bank's rules which says a dog can't deposit checks this way.
@misty This is one of my favorite videos on the subject. It's specific to SNES games, but further reinforces that the whole "developer's intent" thing is a disjointed mess and no consensus should be taken from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssluTgfkdlg
According to homeopathy, a 10X developer is a solution which contains a ratio of 1:10^10 developer to water, and is statistically unlikely to contain any molecules of original developer. It is used for curing developer.
@Dio9sys Meanwhile, in the Trackmania community, being French gives you a handicap, at least for mapping. French maps are known to be... well, put it this way, "French" is its own style of mapping, next to Fullspeed, Tech, RPG, etc.
@eniko I didn't know about it specifically, but must have known about it subconsciously, considering I created the Strategic Cake Reserve in our Minecraft world nearly 15 years ago. But ostensibly that was a play on the Gold Reserve.
Is there a protocol for hiring a parking lot day laborer? Do they have a taxi-rank-like agreement for who's closest to the entrance? Is it bad form to not pick the one closest to the entrance?
Whenever I go to Home Depot, the day laborers wave at me. I want to wave back because it's the nice thing to do, but am afraid it would be interpreted as flagging them down for a job and they'd be disappointed. Usually I end up with a smile and a half-hearted hand raise.
It's pretty impressive that there's an entire network of thousands of locations across the country where the sole purpose is to facilitate the payment of ransoms and extortions.
@TechConnectify Meanwhile, as someone who grew up in the Midwest (WI) but moved to CA/NV 20 years ago, I still get that pang of "wait, should I be doing this?" when I schedule all my most energy intensive tasks (laundry, dishwasher, etc) for the middle of the day, before remembering it is actually the cheapest.
