If you know other curation sources would be happy to list them?
I'm trying to encourage as many human-run curation accounts as possible.

Hey Paul, there are a number of good instances which I federate with from my PeerTube instance at https://fedi.video.
I don't do signups myself but you might find some responsibly run instances through that site.
I don't know what their stances are on politics though, as there have been some problems with extremist conspiracy theorists etc, so some of them may steer clear of the whole area. You would have to look at it case by case.
Feel free to cherrypick from these if they help:

Also this post by @jalefkowit might be useful inspiration?
By request, some curation accounts on the Fediverse.
These are all human-curated, suggesting interesting accounts and posts on their topics:
โก๏ธ @NewsDesk - General news
โก๏ธ @ScienceDesk - Science news
โก๏ธ @TechDesk - Technology news
โก๏ธ @CultureDesk Culture news
โก๏ธ @ArtPhotosDesk - Art & photography news
โก๏ธ @curator@mastodon.art - All kinds of art & artists
โก๏ธ @WatercolourCurator - Watercolours & artists
โก๏ธ @FediFollows - Themed follow suggestions each day
โก๏ธ @FediVideo - Boosting nice videos from Fediverse
There are many curator accounts, I run a couple at @FediFollows and @FediVideo and there are more listed on here (scroll down to the middle of the page): https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-find-accounts-to-follow-on-mastodon-and-the-fediverse-how-do-i-find-my-friends/
Hope it goes well, and brilliant for being so proactive! ๐
Hey Sadiki, I run a website at https://fedi.tips which is full of help for beginners.
If there's something specific you need help with, feel free to ask!
The docs.joinmastodon thing is a bit technical.
I run a site at https://fedi.tips which is aimed at non-technical people and beginners.
There are also more guides I've linked to at https://fedi.tips/what-do-i-do-next-are-there-any-other-guides-to-mastodon-and-the-fediverse/
Mstdn.ca does have other colour schemes, but they work slightly differently as it runs a special version of Mastodon called Glitch Mastodon.
To change the theme on Glitch servers like yours:
1. Click โ๏ธ Preferences
2. Click Flavours (at left of screen)
3. Choose Vanilla Mastodon or Glitch Edition depending on whether you want Glitch's extra features
4. Choose "skin" at bottom of screen
5. Click "use this" below that
You can use the same info on many different devices at once. However, they have to all be signed in at the same server (which in your case is mas.to).
Each server is totally independent. If you want to sign in on a different server you would need a separate account.
The server for the account you're writing from now is mas.to, and you can sign in there with your account, either on its website (at https://mas.to) or on an app. You can use any Mastodon app as long as you enter the correct server (which in your case is mas.to)
(The reasons why this place is split onto many servers are listed here: https://fedi.tips/why-is-the-fediverse-on-so-many-separate-servers/)
Yes, have a look at https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-search-for-stuff-on-mastodon/
The servers on fedi.garden have requirements listed at https://fedi.garden/about-this-site/
The servers on the official Mastodon list have requirements at https://joinmastodon.org/covenant
I cannot see the original post, but the only possible location info someone would have is the IP address, and that's only visible to the admin of your instance. (And people on VPNs won't even be showing their locations through that either.)
I run a recommended instance list at https://fedi.garden and there's also the official Mastodon list at https://joinmastodon.org/servers
Not easily. There are viewers but they tend to be very technical (such as https://github.com/dizzy-labs/mastodon-archive-viewer).
You can manually boost toots on your new account, but there's no automated way of doing this.
This is a known problem.
It's a slightly odd situation, Mastodon's software does actually record the timeline position and could remember it, but for some reason the official web interface doesn't (in fact it resets it!).
In theory third party apps can use this position too, you might find more luck trying them?
If you're comfortable using github you can vote for this to be fixed by giving a thumbs up at https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/19036 and https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/23677
If you're finding Mastodon's interface is too dark or too light, you can change its colour scheme to someting that suits your eyes better.
On the website:
1. Click โ๏ธ Preferences
2. From the "Site Theme" menu choose Dark, Light or High Contrast
3. Click "Save Changes" at the top right
On the official app:
1. Click the โ๏ธ icon to go to settings
2. Choose Dark, Light or Automatic (which uses whatever your phone uses)
On third party apps:
Go to the settings section of your app.
Yay, great to hear!
Yeah, it would be a nice feature to have. I'm guessing they may lack the resources to do that for all posts on all groups?
This is another reason why it would be nice if more Guppe-powered servers appeared, so the developers weren't having to provide all the resources.
