I really wish someone would just build it and ignore the ignorant assholes. Hopefully that's what Fediscovery will do, but I don't really have much faith. People are too worried about their "reputation".

People already don't want you to shut down their misinformation campaigns and will berate you. I can only imagine how bad it's gonna be when we literally can't shut misinformation down...😩

THIS is a reason to be critical about Mastodon. They don't really understand the gravity of the features they're implementing...😳

So....I have a theory about this whole #Threads federating thing....here goes.

You know how on other social media sites like Reddit and Twitter, ads show up as regular posts with a little promoted tag on it?

My theory is that #Meta plans to do the same with Threads and have those Ad "posts" federate.

The reason they are doing a slow burn on the rollout is because they know if they do it right away, everyone will just immediately defederate.

Therefore, do a slow burn and let people interact and follow each other first, and when everyone's all nice and comfy....BOOM. Federated ads.

Users will be mad at admins for defederating if the users have thousands of followers from threads.....oh boy. This is gonna suck.

@chrishering33 @feditips no, the only ones who get vague information about your location is the admins of your instance as they have IP address.

Can anyone with extensive knowledge of #activitypub explain how interactions between #lemmy and #mastodon work? For instance, does #boost and #favorite do anything for the Lemmy side of things? And how do I post to Lemmy from mastodon with decent format?(if possible)

@idle_automaton As someone whose always looking for the best browser, but unwilling to change very often, what's your opinion on Edge vs Firefox? I've been on Edge for awhile now and it's pretty good!

People knock it cause Internet Explorer, but it's not IE at all.

@idle_automaton I just enjoy the extension cross support. That's my biggest thing. It has to have an expansive extension library and will switch to any non memory hogging browser that has this.
