Yeah, I remember the "training" in MS. Anti-money laundering, Know-Your-Customer and Politically-Sensitive-Persons were the big things back then... I think it was 2 full days worth of videos when I came in, and then 1-2 videos every quarter, or so.
No idea why they thought systems programmers, who never saw a customer nor any funds would need that. My job was in a team to collect market data and predict dividends, interest rates and volatility.
I bet it is unbearable now.
Seriously??
I am glad I left corporate America in 2016 after a 5 year stint at Morgan Stanley (wanted to quit after ~2-3 months, but they paid well)
Reduction time
Even at those speeds, it doesn't alter the strength equations; The aluminium (millimeters thick) will disintegrate before the steel (centimeters thick), and most of the kinetic energy will be converted into deformation heat of the aircraft. Only solid steel and titanium parts have a chance to penetrate the outer steel columns.
THAT is my 1st red pill.
Then compare the fire at Madrid's Windsor tower in 2005, raging for something like 20 hours... That was the 2nd pill.
Building 7; 3rd.
WTC had an I-beam facade, I-beams 1-1.5 meters apart. And you argue that a plane was cutting through 30-40 of them...
Government must be proud that they got someone to believe it.
Do you care to buy a bridge that I have for sale? Only $2000, in downtown Geneva.
You don't collapse a steel building with (effectiveley) an aluminium can.
Wow! What an asshole!
I don't disagree that it is slow. I am saying that for a lot of types of applications that (being slow) doesn't matter. Even for webapps with moderate traffic; Does the user care if the inner response takes 10 microseconds or 10 milliseconds? Compared to the 300ms in I/O overhead?
Many Ruby On Rails applications were made and filled a need, yet when run at Facebook-scale the number of computers required will make it not feasible.
Your intuition is fairly accurate, BUT very few applications need the performance that you think will hurt Python a lot.
In modern apps, enormous amounts of time is spent in I/O, waiting for network, waiting for disk, waiting... and that more often than not overshadows the of CPU spent due to Python. Only apps expecting to run 100s of concurrent requests (not connections) are going to be impossible with Python, and that is not many.
Note; Personally, I don't like Python.
Huhhh? Are you saying that Climate Activists have been propagated for, supporting and building the nuclear plant in Finland?
I didn't say that everyone was against Nuclear power. There are still reasonable people around.
I am not a scientist, but I am science literate. But there are things that doesn't make sense in the climate alarmism.
1. Why is not 2 degrees warmer better than 1850/1900/1960/now? It was better each of the warm periods in the last 5000 years. More food, meaning more wealth.
2. More CO2 means more "food" for plants, which is needed for that "more food" of point 1.
3. Why is nuclear power derided by most climate alarmists?
Something is going on.
@NoBeret
It is a fake photo!! Moon is not that far away, just a few 100km above the surface.
Reminds me of 1 grade art class, and we were asked to draw fish (in some context I don't remember) and the guy sitting next to me drew yellow blocks.
Teacher asked "What's that?", "Fish!", "Huh??" and turned out he only knew "fish" from "Fish Fingers" (breaded fish to be fried).
Only one of them know O'Keefe ? Remarkable!
@silvermoon82 An empty Wordpress blog?
I used to think;
<young-me>
Why is there no consequences for the "law enforcement" individuals when they made mistakes?
If I make the mistake to "defend myself with excessive force", I will go to jail, but police will just have to write some more reports when they make "mistakes".

Now I see it for what it is; Oppression and Jackboot State Violence. 5 layers of Lipstick on Totalitarianism.
And why I run my own instance and enjoy seeing my instance on block lists ;-) A badge of honor.
