In Europe the dilution is decreed by law. For diesel that has pushed the prize to 25% higher than petrol, at least in Sweden. And used to be cheaper... Politicians think that they can micro-manage an economy.

And I don't know if US petrol is diluted with ethanol or not. That is another hidden cost, as ethanol diluted petrol won't give you as good miles/gallon.

No. They are taxing so many things that they have to optimize the procedures, or more than 100% of the population would work for the tax department.

And there is no Tax Consulting lobby, that push for laws to make sure that all those people are required for all the citizens.

So, income tax return filing (tax declaration it is called here) is for most people just a form that arrives; Check the numbers and sign. Also means it is hard to avoid/lessen the tax.

In Sweden, this won't work. They ignore transactions and just look at starting and ending balances.

Perhaps one could have 12,000 crypto currencies with balances for them to figure out which one of those have any value relative to last time. But...probably don't care until it goes in/out of the banking system.

Well, if searx are delegating to the commercial engines (as I understood it), then it is not surprising.

The fact that Yacy is (was?) written in Java gives me a lot of advantage, since it is my primary language.

I wasn't thinking about searching search engines, but crawling the Internet on my own, and building up a 100TB index on my own server without touching Google et al.

Disk space is cheap, bandwidth has grown a lot. And if I know ahead of time what to not(!) index (porn, furries, fashion, food, ...) it doesn't seem like a bad idea.

And the really underlying problem (that continue to make things worse) is that people are lazy and ignorant. And the explosion of more "developers" (doubling every 5 years or so) has only slowed a little bit lately, and we are in a constant shock of "no experience" everywhere.
