     @niclas I don't think seeing European gas prices makes the at home price more liveable. The funny thing is how the current establishment has tried to highlight gas price drops as a win even though the price it dropped to is still like double what it was a few years ago.

     @niclas most has 10% added but there are stations that sell ethanol free for small engines and stuff. A bit more expensive.
     
     As far as "how good" we have I just think good indicates positive not simply "less bad" but I see your point

     Maybe not more livable, but you get to appreciate how good you have it.

     And I don't know if US petrol is diluted with ethanol or not. That is another hidden cost, as ethanol diluted petrol won't give you as good miles/gallon.

     @niclas when I was in England (early 2ks) they were still selling leaded gas which I had never seen over here. The prices on fuel were outrageous even then. I imagine at this point leaded gas is done.
     
     Our diesel has always been a bit more than gasoline, but now it's pretty ridiculous.

     In Europe the dilution is decreed by law. For diesel that has pushed the prize to 25% higher than petrol, at least in Sweden. And used to be cheaper... Politicians think that they can micro-manage an economy.

     @feld @niclas I think there are far worse things. I don't know how many 2 stroke engines you need to be around to notice a degradation in quality. My little chainsaw isn't hurting anyone, and it makes work that would take days achievable in a few hours. It's probably more green than flying somewhere tbh.

     @thatguyoverthere @niclas I wish they were banned here because of what it does to the local air quality. I don't think they're killing the planet, but it smells and tastes like shit and it causes asthma attacks for people, respiratory issues for kids, etc
