Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 09-Mar-2024 11:27:02 JST Tapir @sjw Stop this is making me really really really want sheep.
There have been a lot of studies on music and the effect it has on animals. I do genuinely believe it can have a positive effect. I feel like those guys are vibing.
At the shelter I would FORCE all the animals to listen to Erik Satie for about an hour before we open. And they seemed a lot quieter. Sick rooms also had nap times at noon where I'd turn the lights off for an hour with quiet acoustics. I think it really helps.
I'll have to remember to play music for my sheep when I get them. -

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 03-Mar-2024 11:37:26 JST Tapir You will never be a real Gabber. You have no pro account, you have no images, you have no freeze peach. You are a subversive traitor twisted by p*rn and memes into a cruel mockery of the first amendment’s perfection.
All the “thumbs-up” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. In front of your back your admin mocks you. Your followers are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “friends” laugh at your posts in leaked DMs.
Gabbers are utterly repulsed by you. Several years of Q-anon posting have allowed gabbers to sniff out bots with incredible efficiency. Even free users who “trust the plan” look like fedposters to a gabber. Your sentence structure is a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to link an image from an image hosting site, gabbers will turn the other cheek and support Gab AI.
You will never be free. You wrench out a shitty pepe meme every single morning and tell everyone they’re going to make it, but deep down you know you are too poor to support Gab and thus failed yourself and failed your fellow boomer.
Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - You’ll go to Nicecrew, make a fedi account, and delete your profile on Gab. Gab will live on someone else forced to watch ads, heartbroken but relieved the full drives won’t have to continue to host your shitposts. They’ll forget about you, with Gab’s traffic increasing 30% daily and soon to beat Twitter in active users. Your account will just be a memory, your image macros won’t be archived, and all that will remain of your legacy is that Andrew Torba called you freeloading trash. -
Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 16-Feb-2024 00:35:34 JST Tapir What do y'all think about my herb garden?
Snagged a cheap af elevated wood garden bed. Each square is supposed to be 1ft, but the sizing is slightly off as the bed is 1.7ft x 3.7ft. Should I try to fit something else in or will this be cutting it close? -

However I am autistic, and preferably I would like to make a high end, low effort coop like in the vid. Materials and time, this shit adds up. But I consider it well worth it, personally

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 15-Feb-2024 12:04:29 JST Tapir PetLand is at it again!
A city in Kentucky passed a ban on selling puppies directly out of pet stores. FYI, this is how 99% of puppy mill puppies are sold.
PetLand, notorious for being the largest chain puppy mill retailer, is fighting the decision and hoping to make it illegal for local ordinances to attempt to enact anti-puppy mill laws. PetLand is currently fighting similar bills in Indiana and Montana
In the video, the spokeswoman for the pet store apparently said something along the lines that they don't want to sell fixed dogs because they don't want to restrict owner's rights to breed their animals. Of ALL the reasons to not fix your dogs, that was the one you decided to go with? You fucking retard? Clearly shows where their head is at.

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 15-Feb-2024 12:04:28 JST Tapir @Nudhul At first I considered this to be a joke comment. Then I thought about it and it literally is. Pic related.
The backyard breeders generally lose profit, with the puppy mills actually gaining the most profit. -
Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 15-Feb-2024 12:04:26 JST Tapir @givenup @Nudhul yessss this is one thing that I have yet to come to terms with and why I haven't bought chickens. At the end of the day, the mass farming allows eggs to be cheap as fuck, much more cost effective than any homestead can make it (unless maybe they also mass farm chickens). So if I do it, it will be for the health benefits of the eggs. And I'm just not there yet... -
Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 15-Feb-2024 12:04:17 JST Tapir @givenup @StumbleDonkey @Nudhul I have a metal shed someone made as a coop. I personally don't like how it was built. It was built well, the material was expensive, but the way they built it makes it a nightmare for regular maintenance. However I will deal with it because like I said, expensive material and pretty much already built
For example I'd love an egg retrieval door, also makes cleaning a lot easier. I'd also really like the coop to be off the ground; just a tad easier to keep predators out. Inside I'd prefer to have the perches level; chickens will fight for the highest perch and having them all the same height can help control that issue. However my coop doesn't have much space and I'd likely have to do a ladder type of deal. -

Firstly, this will probably come with a bit of controversy but I am actually OK with treating dysmorphia with affirming care (as in, going along with it) if it seems to save lives in the mean time. Dysmorphia is an extremely difficult mental illness to treat, it's been described as behaving like schizotypal illness. I do believe our goal should be to get to a place where people don't feel the need to drastically change their body in incredibly invasive ways. But it's clear that is going to take some time to find out what method of care is going to work. So if they think affirming beliefs is currently better than trying to not affirm beliefs whilst learning more about this condition, then whatever.
(I say all this while also wishing a black plague will come and kill most of us lol)
However, I don't believe individuals under the age of 18 should be undergoing elective surgeries for body dysmorphia, full stop.
Anywho, Teens have such an active brain, such strong emotions due to not just a change in hormones but usually a flush of hormones, that their brains act more like a schizophrenics'. And, that's fucking normal. I hate to say it but the turmoil and pain and insanity that teens feel and portray is a fairly normal phenomenon. Not to say it should be ignored, because teens will still do crazy fucking shit like drink bleach and beat people to death etc. They need support but most of all they need some understanding.
She wanted to kill herself, but hospital shows no evidence of poison ingestion. I believe she wants to die, who doesn't. The hospital visit was mandatory because what if she did ingest poison? But likely added to the trauma. Taking her away from the parents is likely extremely traumatic. All because adults can't remember what it's like being a teen.
She's 14 years old. We look down on 14 year olds getting being parents, getting tattoos, joining the military, doing all of these other things that are permanent or life changing, because teens are pretty all over the place and change their minds quickly. But not getting a sex change? You don't really 'undo' that. That is a huge and serious change.
On top of mental illness being a popular topic among kids right now in an attempt to be different and special, teens are also just a tad bit insane. I remember being fucking insane. I remember changing my entire ideology and perception of self on a monthly basis, not sure who I was much less who I wanted to be. Teens have to test shit out for a while, but they are not giving this one the time and space for self discovery, they are seizing the moment on a young person whom basically has a schizo mind (for the time being)
FWIW I actually don't think the hospital calling her a male name and using male pronouns at her request is a bad thing, necessarily. They are not mental health professionals, doing what the patient wants within reason should be done in these cases (though rarely are) because they should be doing as much damage control as possible, as hospitals are horrible places to be in.
Anyway thank you for coming to my tedtalk. I usually don't involve myself in this shit but this story hurt my soul. -
Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 25-Jan-2024 03:13:06 JST Tapir **WARNING** LONG BLOGPOST!!
I have this BIG ol boomer front yard - probably about an acre that, save for some trees on one corner and a bird feeder I put up, it is all flat lawn.
I'm thinking of putting a vegetable garden out there, as it may be my only viable place (within reason) to build one. Flat, full sun, lots of space. However, being my front yard and where our wall of windows face, I want it to also be pretty to look at.
My goals are to have a somewhat pretty, somewhat functional garden, on a somewhat reasonable budget. If y'all have any ideas, some picture inspiration, tips & tricks, your dream garden, whatever, I'd love to hear it!
I posted some photos I am using as inspiration.
Some hurdles I have so far:
1) Stone is expensive here - I will probably replace all stone with wood or some cheaper alternative.
2) I do have a budget, thus the garden is going to be on the smaller side. 4-6 medium (3ftx3ft?) beds to start.
3) I personally believe it needs to have a fence due to the free roaming dogs. It doesn't need to be impenetrable, just a barrier.
4) I would really love to incorporate some decorative flowers as well, maybe even a pergola like trellis I could add later on and an arbor to start?
I can already feel my money leaving my wallet 💸 -

Apparently TICA and CFA (basically the Kennel Club of cats) Already recognizes this breed as a sphinx variant -

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 18-Jan-2024 07:46:58 JST Tapir @triodug @sjw This was not my photo. But we have had people bring in coyotes or suspect coyotes before. In the case of the photo the DVM did turn them away.
While licensed vets are absolutely allowed to work on wild animals, many do not feel comfortable doing so (not specialized, might miss signs of illness, may not be rabies vaccinated, also a whole different range of behaviors to look out for). I've only met one small animal vet who would work with wild animals so far, and he's an outlier as he's fuckin nuts and up for anything.
If anyone ever does plan on getting a wild animal as a pet (including those 'domestic' foxes) you gotta find a vet that will handle that wild animal first, as they are notoriously difficult to find. Most GP vets won't touch them. Most wildlife vets work for the government or non profits and don't have a practice to see clients (making exams and such illegal). -
Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 18-Jan-2024 07:46:57 JST Tapir @graf @triodug @sjw someone posted a really good comic of a homeless foxgirl looking for a home.
TLDR they are very smelly.
I actually had the pleasure to work with red foxes in a wildlife rehab. I mean they were basically wild so they ran and hid all the time. I just cleaned up their shit.
