@SuperDicq sure, but that is a systemic problem. killing small farms by taxing more is only intensifying this for the future. big industrialized farms have less problem with paying some more taxes.

@mk @theorytoe you missed the point. containers just make things harder. they are nice rube goldberg machines for shit languages like python which are hell to deploy.

when just installing everything from packages, things will receive timely security patches of the distribution.

when using VMs, one has to upgrade a few VMs for this. not great, not terrible.

with containers one has to hope that some image down the stack will be upgraded to include the fix, while the whole setup provides worse isolation than VMs (which already is prone to leakage). with containers the isolation is essentially the same as for plain linux users and chroot. no improvement. cgroups limiting resource usage can be set by the init system, i think systemd does this already.

containers sure have their use case, but mostly they are a crappy solution waiting for problems.

in the end the image is a meme which makes the point that ftp-ing a directory full of php scripts worked better than all the modern shit.

people complaining about the farmers protesting here in germany are _exactly_ the same people who were complaining about people protesting against the fascist covid-measures like lockdowns and defacto vaccine mandates. the arguments are _exactly_ the same. the people protesting are either stupid and incapable of living their own lives but probably they are evil nazis, and that the almighty state should use violence to subdue anyone speaking against it.

now and then it's by people who are afraid of freedom and hate their own existence so much that they can't allow others to be free and stand for their existence. everyone must be miserable, just like them.

i just tested with a FLAC file from bandcamp putting it through "flac -8 -o outfile.flac infile.flac" and it saved about a megabyte, but i think that depends on the kind of music. white noise is badly compressible.

FLAC is lossless but like for other lossless compression formats you can choose how much the algorithm should try to reduce it. it should never (except if something is badly broken) lose information.

i just want the ability to convert things to other formats without additional losses, so i try to keep my archive as FLAC, disc space is cheap enough now.

@Zerglingman i prefer flac for achival purposes, listening i can't really distinguish it from even opus down to 96kbps (depending on genre).

i bet the bandcamp flacs are also really badly compressed to save on computing power. ~570M is almost a CD.
