i can see how both of these stereo-to-mono downmixing/channel-cutting can impact usability but i cant see why, in this context, we wouldnt just go with the one-size-fits-all solution assuming mumble never wants to support stereo capture/playback in the first place. like, surely it has the ability to detect stereo input and do something sane with that, right? -

>contrast Jack+nondaw users
this piqued my interest, are there any good workflows for this? i figured ardour was the inevitable glue on linux/jack setups for mostly hardware-driven production -

opal hart (opal@ap.maladaptive.art)'s status on Wednesday, 01-Nov-2023 03:52:44 JST opal hart @WashedOutGundamPilot @doctorsex again, read what i originally posted and see that you're putting words into my mouth. this has nothing to do with pride and everything to do with self-discovery of potential. hopefully you have that potential inside you, otherwise you're nothing more useful than a puppet and i pity you. -

opal hart (opal@ap.maladaptive.art)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Oct-2023 21:29:53 JST opal hart @Moon @Zerglingman @jeff ohh yeah i have html formatting outright disabled on mumble.volatile.bz cus i dont trust anyone to do that right, and i already use other shit for text chat and image uploads
i like the mumble voice protocol itself, if anything i'd think to have better integration with other already-existing chat platforms so we all arent bitching about another gui program taking up space. dunno the best approach to that though -

opal hart (opal@ap.maladaptive.art)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Oct-2023 21:08:22 JST opal hart @Moon @Zerglingman @jeff in what ways? i only notice weird bugs with my tiling wm but for the most part it seems to work fine. and federated voip seems like diminishing returns; you can really only be on one server/channel at a time so the idea of separate servers makes sense here -

funny this thread pops up just now, i had some shower thoughts about probably needing to ask for crowdfunding if i cant land a new job soon, but i would justify it by working full-time on software i wanted to work on anyway, and prioritising things people would actually use. i just dont know how large my reach is, because im fucking autistic and i like to shut out a lot of people all the time -

opal hart (opal@ap.maladaptive.art)'s status on Sunday, 29-Oct-2023 00:20:47 JST opal hart @Zerglingman @Terry @Wolffkran @jimmybuffettfanaccount same but wtf are all the civilian attacks about, thats whats tilting me about all this. i know the aggressors tend to be brainwashed sandniggers whose only response to anything is an outlash of violence, and i know the solution to all this isnt as simple as just pumping lead into the militants and leaving the rest alone, but holy shit -

opal hart (opal@ap.maladaptive.art)'s status on Saturday, 28-Oct-2023 21:37:21 JST opal hart @Zerglingman @Moon @aetios @xian there is exactly one thing i can give obsd proper credit for: the OS installer is completely painless, better than setting up a linux system. but when i actually boot into it and try to use it for anything purposeful, i gave up, plus it ran with a heavy performance cost on my x200 due to all the "mitigations" it has -

>just werks for me.
yeah i know cus you arent a dev and therefore you are less likely to keep up with the vulnerabilities/bugs or care about the crap design choices the obsd team makes. pretty much everyone is stuck with openssh at least as a client, because its the only real mature implementation, but the configuration knobs and implentation itself are nearly as bad as gnupg -
opal hart (opal@ap.maladaptive.art)'s status on Saturday, 28-Oct-2023 21:31:17 JST opal hart @Zerglingman @xian @Moon @aetios nearly every obsd codebase (yes, including tmux and openssh) is overkill garbage, dont get your hopes up -
opal hart (opal@ap.maladaptive.art)'s status on Saturday, 28-Oct-2023 21:28:39 JST opal hart @xian @Moon @aetios well, there are several ways to set up email, which makes it complex but not difficult per se: http://www.postfix.org/documentation.html has links for common setups, and what most people think of when setting up a mailserver is sasl auth over submission(s) port, auth itself can be handled by dovecot since most people want imap as well, and then opendkim is brainless to set up because the same steps apply to everyone
there are a bunch of ready-to-go solutions as well that even host webmail for you, but ive never tried any of them. yeah, basic knowledge of how email works is required for any of this, but it really is just piecing together a few components and then never touching the setup again unless you need something new. for very simple setups, you can forgo sasl authentication entirely and just relay from a specific ip address or range, and then use something sendmail-compatible or just your normal mail client assuming it supports skipping authentication. this is doable with a vpn address if you already have something like wireguard set up and you dont have static ips at home, or directly from your mailserver if you already access it regularly anyway
