   If something happened to me it is actually now a problem because I host and run so much stuff for other people and the setup is very complicated.
   
   It's also probable that whoever got my money would not want to spend what it costs to run this thing.

     Trivia: there was exactly one time that I e-begged for donations, because I was locked out of our paypal at the time and needed to pay for hosting. Exactly two people stepped up to donate, one person not even on SPC paid the bulk of it. I returned their money after I was able to get back into Paypal.
     
     We've received free donations since then, some to a monero wallet I can't find anymore.

     SPC has (almost) never actively asked for donations to keep afloat, and for the forseeable future we will continue to not do so. But if everybody did, like a simple foundation or something could be established to keep it running. But I just don't think it would work out without a serious reduction in operating costs, which would be impossible to implement since I would be dead.
     
     The best thing I can do is to keep the software maintained so it could operate as long as possible without intervention and maybe you guys would get an extra six months to find a new home before the site crashed forever.

     @Moon people paying for online services they use is very rare, a lot of it is our own fault, but also small sites like SPC are competing with megacorps who give "free" services at a massive scale. For the average person they dont see much difference between the two aside from the features of the site. So cost never enters their minds until brought to it
     
     Not too sure what can be done except for people going out their way to pay for things more

     @Lumeinshin @Moon self-hosting hobbyists tend to appreciate the backend costs for running services and are more tolerant of others charging or seeking donations for service
     
     funny this thread pops up just now, i had some shower thoughts about probably needing to ask for crowdfunding if i cant land a new job soon, but i would justify it by working full-time on software i wanted to work on anyway, and prioritising things people would actually use. i just dont know how large my reach is, because im fucking autistic and i like to shut out a lot of people all the time
