@nixCraft The real issue is that by the time you would need to upgrade the RAM (who would want or expect to upgrade GPU/CPU on a non desktop Mac?), the model will long be outside of macOS security update support, thus rendering it a brick
@nixCraft I seem to recall that you can also use the hosts file to send your junk IPs to dev/null or localhost or similar, can't find much online about this right now though...
@nixCraft If it's just the ads you want to block then I've found YouTube in Brave browser is fine. You may need to be logged in to view some content however, but as already mentioned, Freetube (desktop) or Newpipe (Android) got you covered if you want better anonymity 👍
@nixCraft when I got my new Lenovo laptop a couple of years back, I saw the ZFS option during install (Ubuntu 20.04), iirc I was able to reboot once then the hard drive borked and I had to RMA it. I don't know it was ZFS or Ubuntu's fault, but I've been avoiding that SSD firmware update Snap that has been presenting itself to me ever since 😝 I shall pluck up the courage to try again next opportunity I get!
@Mastodon I predict instant sell out of all 1000, rendering these to be highly collectable and no doubt re-sell on the open market at far higher prices, hopefully some profits can be channelled back into running Mastodon
@nixCraft sadly many companies will always go for cheap and inexperienced then when dealing with the fallout of hiring cheap and inexperienced, throw more cheap and inexperienced at the ensuing dumpster fire. HR teams often have no idea about hiring IT, senior management little more and expectations seems to be 1 person to handle _all_ aspects of the IT/dev ops where a team of 5+ would really be bare minimum...
@nixCraft I like it, active development too so if something isn't working now or missing, chances are it'll soon be fixed/there. It is a bit of a fiddle logging in in the desktop app as you need to extract session cress via page inspection but nothing too advanced. However, open.spotify in Brave is still a great experience for me, and add free (with free account)
@aral#Wayland or #Xorg? Wayland would be my prime suspect if you are using that? I often have quirky screen resolution issues when swapping between monitors although not directly Gnome Settings crapping out, also I'm not on Fedora... Swapped back to X recently (after trying to run some old game) and things a tad more stable..
@nixCraft For many of us living abroad it's mandatory to keep your original number plus your local number. The prospect of using a virtual SIM seems to be the way forward here anyway, then presumably you can have as many numbers/tariffs as you like
@nixCraft Well I hope they can update it to be suitable for email usage in 2023 and beyond...Still there's now #SnappyMail - the recent fork of #Rainloop so there's always that as an option
