Pros:
Not being interrupted by an update, or being forced to.
Making the UI look how I want, not how some focus group reacted to positively.

Cons:
Games are getting there, but not 100%. Blizz things, specifically.
Some peripherals, like older Logitech G stuff, are lacking support.

@itsfoss Getting better. However, three things that I need for a full change-over;

Much better support for Logitech G keyboards. I've used the G15/G510 for well over a decade, and Linux support is poop.

2-channel positional psychoacoustics. Windows Sonic for Headphones is amazingly good at this, even on low-spec USB sound devices.

Battlenet games. Yeah, I'm old, and set in my ways. 90% of my PC gaming time is in WoW. Bnet support is wonky at best.

@itsfoss Love it. One of my issues with Debian is they only ship the ESR version of Firefox.

@nixCraft Only Mac I have handy runs on PowerPC. Well, it would, if the PSU hadn't gone tits-up.

@nixCraft My onboard audio chip failed, and happily blasted my ears with the freshest Dalek porno grooves at 100% volume. Head was ringing for several minutes.

Was a good excuse to upgrade to an Audigy 5Rx, tho.

@itsfoss Specifically? Eh, dunno. Always been a Debian fan. Stable, and leading edge updates aren't a killer need. KDE has more than enough customisation options for me.

@itsfoss 1998-ish, needed something better than Win9x/NT for our shiny new cable broadband connection. It was the hot thing all the l33t kids in our local 2600 group were getting into.

Installed Debian on an Am5x86-133 to act as the house firewall and router, web/email host, and Quake2 server, packed into an OG IBM PC-AT 5150 case. Setting up the NAT/firewall stuff was an exercise in madness, but once configured, was smooth and fast.

@itsfoss GUI configuration tools are not evil. Should have more of them.

I started with system configs using DIP switches, and jumpers, then autoexec_bat, config_sys, and win_ini, even faffed about deep in the Windows registry.

Not saying it needs to be 100% GUI, à la F̵i̵s̵h̵e̵r̵-̵P̵r̵i̵c̵e̵ MacOS. Simple, text-based config files offer immense granularity. As long as that option is there, cool.

@nixCraft I love my HP printer. It's a little LaserJet 5L. Rescued it from the side of the road sometime in 2001-2002. Fixed its paper feed problem with a free kit from HP (made for the mechanically-identical 6L, but not offered for the 5). Plugged it into the network with a $20 Ethernet print server from Microcenter.

Still works fine to this day, and is a small part of why I won't buy a new HP printer. (Getting repeatedly cornholed by other HP products is the bigger part)
