@nixCraft your perfectly useful printer now not only requires a subscription to let you print, even when you have fresh toner, but now if your don't regularly feed your tamigotchi-printer-pet then you'll need to raise another print spooler job from egg.
The most surprising thing about getting in to 3D printing has so far been how a 3D printer - a device which crafts physical objects in 3D space - is somehow more reliable and less frustrating to use than my inkjet printer. And if it breaks I can fix it, whereas my inkjet printer will probably just be e-waste. And filament is either equal to or cheaper than inkjet ink.
@nixCraft HP is the worst. I HAD, operative word, an HP computer and I couldn't even install my video editing software on it because the system is so proprietary.
@nixCraft I swore off printers some years ago when they just began the process of stuff like putting keyed chips in ink cartridges to try to make third party cartridges impossible and such and intentionally refusing to print if one color was low (even back then they'd stop if it was low -- not out.) Even if you only wanted black and white... Now all this is multiplied tenfold and more. Why do people let them get away with this?
@nixCraft switching printers to other brands than HP has been one of the best decisions I've made.
Overpriced cartridges with unnecessary plastic packaging and checking system. I don't need magenta ink to scan a black and white document. I'm surprised they haven't gone out of business yet
@nixCraft installed offbrand catridges in mine recently and had to aknowledge a warning on the printer that they can ensure quality and safety with those ...
If i imagined my spouse or even someone Like the inlaws Rreading that Message that would really
@nixCraft I love my HP printer. It's a little LaserJet 5L. Rescued it from the side of the road sometime in 2001-2002. Fixed its paper feed problem with a free kit from HP (made for the mechanically-identical 6L, but not offered for the 5). Plugged it into the network with a $20 Ethernet print server from Microcenter.
Still works fine to this day, and is a small part of why I won't buy a new HP printer. (Getting repeatedly cornholed by other HP products is the bigger part)
I cannot recommend Epson EcoJet series enough. No bullshit and you can recharge your own ink. also the first charge that comes with it lasted me a year instead of a week.
*This is not a paid endorsement, just a fuck you HP post.
